There have been many more moments this season where I've noticed him on defense in a positive way. He appears to have bought in pretty well with the team culture and trying to do what Ime wants from him, but that may just be because Ime seems as tolerant of a player jacking up 2x as many threes as he should given his skillset as he is intolerant of poor defensive effort or boneheaded defensive mistakes. Overall, my current "eye test" impression is mildly positive, but I fear that may just be bias creeping in because the team is winning more games; statistically, he appears about the same. If we start losing again I think he will get a lot of the blame. Since I don't think Ime will start benching him for bad shot selection at this point, I guess my only realistic hope that he turns a corner on offense is that he becomes a better jump shooter. But so far there are scant signs of that happening.
Idk if I’m tripping but I feel like he has been more consistent as the season has gone on and that he is having his best year. I won’t be surprised if this is just a peak in his rollercoaster of good/bad play. Last night I actually thought he may be our all star pick. If he could get a whistle he would be a lot more efficient but idk if that will happen in Houston.
I'm not a Jalen believer in the least bit. Been bamboozled too many times. But calling him an inconsistent defender means they haven't watched him this year. It's the only thing he's been consistent at. If he wasn't, he would've been benched a long time ago.
Even the best players today aren't consistent every game. But if I have to put a definition, is the person solid more than 3 out of every 10 games? I'm not arguing one way or the other, but you can draw you own conclusions.
Nah I'm happy with how the drafts played out. If we got Mobley every subsequent pick Stone made will change.
Well, if you usually need a top 10 player to win a championship, we could look at somewhere around halfway down that list (i.e. the median top 10 player) and see what their game log looks like. So, how about Jayson Tatum? If we look at his game log this season, we can sort it by GameScore, which is basically the one-game version of Hollinger's PER (which systematically overrates big men and underrates defense, but since Tatum is neither a rim-protecting center nor an elite or bad defender, I think it's fine here). Let's set the line at a GameScore of 20, which is typically a really good game from an NBA player and a nice round number. What we find is that out of his 33 games so far this season, 19 of them were over 20 GameScore, and only 7 were under 15 (which equates to a pretty good starter's average game). If we look at JG's game log for comparison, we can see that out of his 35 games so far, he's had only 8 over 20 GameScore, and 24 out of 35 were below 15. The weird thing with Jalen that makes him different from most players with mediocre production: His peak isn't that much below Tatum's. JG's best game this season was his 41-point monster @ Philly where he achieved a 32.4 GameScore. Tatum's was a 43 point/16 rebound affair @ Chicago, for 39.7 GameScore. If we look at, say, Jaden Ivey as a point of comparison, his best GameScore this season was only 23.5. Much more consistent game-to-game--much lower peak performance.
Have you ever looked at Jokic? He has literally one game under 20 all season, and that was a blowout win where he went 6-9. He also has 18/31 games where he's above 30, which is just hilarious.
I don't think people realize yet how incredible Jokic is. If he decides to keep playing into his late 30s and nothing crazy happens injury wise... Top 5 all time, easy.
Ya for sure, it's hard to get credit when you look like him. He's already top 10 all time for me pretty easily, i value peak a little more than longevity. Guys like curry, durant, kobe who are kinda in that 10-15 range can't touch Jokic. He's almost certainly gonna get jobbed this season of the MVP for the 2nd time, which is a bummer, but hopefully it doesn't happen.
What makes it worse is that Cade has improved a ton and looks like a top tier super star now, Scottie Barnes and Mobley are also far beyond where Jalen is as well. The Rockets messed this draft up pretty badly. Cade went ahead of Jalen, but there have been trades at the top historically where the smarter team comes out significantly ahead (Luka, Tatum, etc)
Stats don’t lie. When one points out the numbers people get upset. Jalen is not very good. Glad he’s had a few good games recently and he’s definitely improved in some aspects of the game, but he’d have to play consistently well for the rest of the season to make me question my judgement of him as someone we should be moving away from. Mainly because he can’t improve the shooting i don’t see his value to the team. The future is Sengun and Amen. We need shooters around them; the sooner that happens we’ll be better off.
Do we have genuine bot accounts in the BBS now? Like I swear some of these legacy accounts have been taken over by AI bots. Tinman is another good example. Has Clutch invested in some servers for AI?
Im always thinking about competing at the highest level and how players fit into a championship level team... And i have a hard time seeing this version of Jalen Green being the starting 2 guard on a champion. Hes fine for what we got going on right now and where expectations are, but in the next few years coming up, is Jalen (playing like he has been) the guy we want starting at SG when we try to become a legit contender and making championship runs?
Why is your standard the most dominant player since Lebron? Jokic is not a top 10 he is top 1 and has been for the past 5 yrs+.
And the Celtics are a very recent example... as recent of an example there can be that you don't need anywhere close to that level of player to win a ring.
Top 10 all time, not top 10 currently. He's been the best player in the league for like 5 years like you said. He's easily the best player since lebron was drafted.
