i predict Battier will become another Steve Francise: will never recover 100% and lost a step on defense.

battier is one of few pple in the nba to have any success in containing kobe. now that we have ron, i find it hard to believe that kobe can have a good game vs us.

then next season when we get posey, bruce bowen, gerald wallace, and lindsey hunter, i dunno how anyone can score on us.

The team could very well be 6-0 had Battier be available. Ray Allen would not have had so many open looks and I guarantee you Shane would not have let Roy get open.

I always liked Battier but I really didn't appreciate him enough until now. His poor rebounding numbers I could attribute to him being out on the perimeter playing defense. I still thought he should rebound better however until I realized he alone is the Rockets transition defense.

The Rockets also look lost on defense at times. Roy getting wide open was the best example of that. Battier talks a lot on defense and keeps everyone aware of things they may not see without him. He brings a lot to this team and his return is going to make this team by far the best in the league IMO.

I think you need to revisit Battier's games against Kobe, he has one good game last year during the streak but Kobe torches him regularly as he does the rest of the league.

Our Basketball IQ just went up a 1,000 point on Shane's return. As I've said, if we can get Rafer and Artest to lower the FG attempted number we will be okay.

WELCOME BACK BATMAN, MUCH MAN LOVE!!!

Thankyou. In keeping with the spirit of this thread, I do agree we will greatly improve with Shane back, but it's hilarious how this myth of Shane as some Kobe-stopper has been propagated by delusional Rockets fans on the basis of one game. Look at the numbers. Kobe regularly lights Battier up, including a 50 pt performance or two.

Please look at ALL of the numbers. Field Goal %. Both Chuck and Battier make their opponents work harder for their points. In the case for Kobe, the Rockets want him taking all those shots, he's inefficient and it hurts his team. The Lakers are better when the ball isn't just in one person's hand.

He's been pretty terrific defensively in his first two games back.
