I like your thinking. This team needs a swift kick in the ass and Gruden and Singletary could definitely do that. Our offense is built for Gruden's stye and our Defense...well, I really don't care anymore. I just want to see some results.
I don't get Kubiak's obsession with running a balanced offense. He was the same last year when we had no running game but he kept on forcing Brown/Slaton. You weren't balanced in week 1 and that worked out pretty well didn't it? Its like he doesn't even consider the opponent's strengths/weaknesses when he is drawing up his "script".
Exactly. He is so dogmatic and inflexible it's depressing. He will keep on doing the same thing even though it's obviously not working. Peyton Manning knows how to work the play action to absolute perfection, yet he will throw it 50 times if that's what it takes to win. You play to win the game, not to achieve offensive balance, dumbass. Hello?
I remember last season the bills had the lead on the pats and were getting the ball back. The kr tried to stay up for more yards and got stripped and they lost the game, and found his yard trashed thenext morning. I thought it was classless first but I would be sorely tempted to spray paint the words "run the ball" on kubiaks car after hearing that aw shucks CYA presser.
What bugs me is that Kubiak will be back next year even if the Texans fail to make the playoffs. I guess Uncle Bob just doesn't have the stomach to fire his employees not matter how incompetent they are.
I don't understand why he would be back... 8-8 OK... made some progress... wasn't a losing record and finally established a QB. 9-7 (could've made the playoffs if hadn't been for a ****ty kicker and injuries) but OK... hopefully next year.... sitting at 4-3... still in the race to win the AFC South with the Colts and Titans but don't look that impressive, ****ty defense. Now, if we don't make the playoffs this year, is there any reasons to bring back Kubiak? The defensive coordinator is going to get canned... Kubiak should be also even if he does improve us to 10-6... because 10-6 will not get it done in the AFC. If he can get 11-5, and we make the playoffs, then yeah sure, bring him back. Uncle Bob will lose quite a few season ticket holders if he doesn't.
But couldn't this also be indicative of how much the team loves him? Seriously - if he'd lost the locker room, if the players didn't believe in him or the system he was selling - the easy thing would be to fold the tent and get the guy ousted, right? But every year, as his hot seat warms up, the team steps up and essentially saves his job. I think that has merit. Enough merit, I think, for McNair, et al, to at least consider that maybe the primary problem isn't necessarily its coach.
That's what the consensus was previously regarding R. Smith and the defense. He only dialed it up and called more aggressive plays once their chance of making the playoffs was at .001%. Not being a Kubiak apologist because I want him gone after this season too. Right now is football hari kari.
Wait - what? So you're saying that, year after year, the coach can't get the best out of his players for most of the season, and that shows that the coach isn't a problem? Isn't one of the primary purposes of a coach to maximize the team's use of talent?
The only thing wrong with Kubiak is he has no dominant defensive tackle that disrupts the pocket, he has no dominant de that pressures the QB, he has young corners that make lots of mistakes, he has no disruptive defenders. and he makes bad decisions with his offense- like not running the ball more, using the 3 step drop with quick passes and playing ball control against Indy.
not necessarily. 10-6 with this schedule isnt bad...especially when you consider suspensions and injuries.
What if 9-7 is the team maximizing its 8, 9-win talent? Heck, what if they're overachieving and this is really 5, 6, 7-win talent?... I'm merely pointing out the flipside to ima's thoughts - that a more or less DOA team *doesn't*, year after year, quit on its coach could very well say something about what the players think about the coach and what he's trying to do. It doesn't absolve him from blame, nor should it excuse him from being dismissed if deemed appropriate. But it's also not insignificant.
Yep; I initially included that in my post. I just think it's interesting. If these guys hated Kubiak, if they didn't believe in him - they'd tank. You see it happen a lot in sports.
there is a problem with motivation. I know coaches can have a place in motivating from time to time, but i'm of the opinion that players have to motivate themselves for the most part.
