This is sparked by this post - I like Peyton alot. Not trying to hype him up but . . . Just want look at the impact he and his coaching makes THEY PUT THEIR GUYS IN POSITION TO BE SUCCESSFUL They INSPIRE THEIR GUYS TO BE SUCCESSFUL [i guess] COLTS RECEIVERS # of REC P. Garcon 7 J. Tamme 6 A. Gonzalez 4 R. Wayne 4 M. Hart 3 D. Brown 2 G. Robinson 0 Passed to 1 B. Eldridge 0 Passed to 1 TEXANS RECEIVERS # of REC A. Johnson 7 A. Foster 9 D. Ward 2 O. Daniels 1 V. Leach 1 J. Jones 2 K. Walter 0 Passed to 5 J. Dreessen 0 Passed to 1 1. Are their receivers really that much better than the Texans? 2. Is their Pass Defense that much better than the Texans? QUESTIONS: 1. Switch Coaches - do the Texans win? 2. Switch QB's: Do the Texans win? 3. Switch Receivers: Do the Texans win this game? 1. Maybe - Dunno enough about Caldwell to say one way or the other 2. Definately. Peyton would carve up the Colts defense 3. No! Peyton would have made our guys look like all stars or the Texans defense would have. . pick your poisen. While I understand Peyton is good . .even great He is not catching these balls. The play designs and the play calling seems to put these pedestrian and mediocre receivers in a position to be GOOD To GREAT! This is NOT what Kubiak does and by default it falls on Schaub as well. Peyton has NO RUNNING game . . . Yet #32 or whoever the hell that was was getting positive running yards when they did run. alot of it was Play Calling! The original question - DOES KUBIAK PUT THE PLAYERS IN THE BEST POSITION TO BE SUCCESSFUL! Rocket River
Kubiak had them same warts last year, and I was among several that were ready to see him go. He did a great job taking a bumbling loser and turning it into a fringe contender. But he plateaued, and it's crystal clear he isn't the person to take them to the next level. Preparation issues Gameplan issues Basic strategy issues Inability to get full effort out of the team week to week and quarter to quarter Poor in-game adjustments etc We had an 11-win team last year that he helped underachieve to 9 wins and a missed playoff berth. Apologists will try and claim it was fluke plays and bad luck, but that doesn't account for the offense's maddening habit of going MIA one half or the other. Doesn't excuse his stubborn insistence of putting the ball in Slaton and Brown's butterfinger hands in critical short yardage situations. Now we're at the crossroads and on the verge of wasting a second straight year of what should be a postseason-noise-making crew. I won't harp on the Giants game, they're playing too well, but the Dallas loss was inexcusable and indefensible. This isn't baseball or basketball, you can't throw away a game in this league - it comes back to haunt you every time. Uncle Bob isn't going to touch him though. He's going to count his money, high five Drayton, and get set for the new CBA power squeeze.
Out of the coaches who started in 2006, Kubiak is the only one with more than 2 years experience that either isn't fired or taken the team to the playoffs. I was a Kubiak supporter last year, but the offense seems to have regressed (even with the addition of a running game), the defense definitely has regressed, and the team is this close to quitting on him. It's time for change.
Some men are meant to be good coaches, the kind that know how to win, Gary Kubiak is not one of those guys. When coaches outthink themselves and try to get cute, the players recognize it, and they start questioning the coach, that is where you lose them. I think the Texans might be there now.... I just don't see the team having confidence in Kubiak's decisions.... DD
I don't understand the need to be balanced every single game when their defense has a glaring weakness at stopping the run. You line up to run, they know it's coming and they can't do jack squat about it. Playoffs or bust Kubes...
Kubiak just doesn't know what smash-mouth football is. He's a finesse guy, and finesse rarely wins big in this league. It was telling after the Week 1 victory against the Colts when Kubiak told the media the offensive line kept telling him to "run the damn ball" His insistence on having a balanced offense is insane. Work it till it doesn't work anymore, and then adjust.
Schaub should have called his own game......ignored his coach and audibled at the line of scrimmage. DD
I thought last year that we should give him one more full season before calling for his head...playoffs or bust. He just took a mighty step in the wrong direction with this one. I wasn't really expecting a win, but the way the offense was ran is a telling sign about our coaching. They are just guessing and hoping it works ... trying to be clever when they are not. Up until now, most of the issue has been situational playcalling. this was an entire gameplan. You've got to think sooner or later that the players will come to realize this and give up on the coaching staff. This will be 4 straight years of the same thing ... showing tremendous signs of life followed by coaching duds like this. If we come out against the Jets and Ravens and aren't competitive due to obvious coaching flaws, I'm through with him. These are the teams that we need to be able to beat because that's the kind of defense we'll see in the playoffs.
I get so damn tired of people pointing to 9-7 as a reason to not fire him last year. That 9-7 was a total fluke. The season was basically OVER after losing to the jags to go 5-7. Who gives a crap about the last 4 games after that? We beat the Rams by 3 and beat NE in a game that was totally meaningless to them. YIPPEE!!!
Except this game wasn't balanced at all. Your star RB has 15 touches the entire game? Sounds pass heavy to me. I used to think Caldwell was overrated. All he does is give the ball to his best player and lets him do his thing. Apparently, our coach isn't even capable of that. 8 carries for Foster, 5 targets for Andre in the first half.
Well, shucks, Donny...we just didn't come out ready to play last night and that's my fault. We've just got to continue to get better.
whoa whoa whoa...is Donny finally off the Kubiak bandwagon? Man, when he turns on you, he goes all out.
I've had it. I put up with him since the team has technically improved for 3-4 years now. But now it's pretty obvious they've improved despite him, not because of him. He has cost this team more wins than anybody wearing pads without the last name Brown. KUCK FUBIAK

A balanced attack would have been an improvement over last night. It was a 2:1 pass/run ratio. 9-7 wasn't a fluke, it was an underachievement to the tune of 2-3 games. Kubiak gets about 75% out of this team, and this is a league where you have to grab a hold of every opportunity to win with white knuckles. They should have enjoyed a cushy schedule and down year in the division to grab a playoff spot, but they pissed away several games with practice field effort and intensity. No accountability from Drayton, none from Kubiak. This is the result. It could be worse, but it's so frustrating to know that this roster is capable of so much better.
