IMO these are the Facts. FACT: A 9-7 Kubiak does not get fired. FACT: A 8-8 Kubiak does not get fired. only at 7-9 does it get dicey. He has too many built in excuses. Tough Schedule, Suspensions, injuries, etc Rocket River
This is like the Astros being in contention a couple of years back when 4 or 5 different teams choked. Yes, they got themselves in the mix - but when they started playing well, they had something like a 1% chance to make the playoffs. They had to rely on all sorts of other crazy things happening last year like Pittsburgh (defending Superbowl Champs) going on a 5 game losing streak and losing to teams like the Raiders, Chiefs and Browns. Sure, it's nice that they made a run at the end and they almost got lucky (both the Texans and Astros) with a bunch of crazy things happening, but it was a huge fluke of circumstance that nearly made it happen.
It's irrelevant. Duane Brown and Arian Foster may love Kubiak to death, but that doesn't stop him from, for example, ignoring Foster in the first half and running a primarily pass heavy gameplan, while letting Brown get bent over by Freeney one on one time and time again. Tough love, I suppose.
I'd also say that whether the players like the coach isn't really a criteria for me whether a coach should stay or go. It could be that they like the coach because he lets them be lazy or simply because he protects them from criticism. Or it could be that they like him because he's really smart and good at his job. There are successful coaches that players seem to like (Mack Brown) and those that seem like asses (Bob Stoops). There are also unsuccessful coaches in both styles.
So did the Jets, who were 4-6 after 10 games and had to win 5 of 6 including twice having teams - better teams based on record - rest starters. Think any Jet fan thought their run to the AFC championship game was rendered illegitimate by the "huge fluke of circumstance"s they needed to make the postseason? Among the wild card hopefuls that were still mathematically alive on the NFL's final weekend, here were their records after 12 games when the Texans made their meaningless run: DEN 8-4 NYJ 6-6 BAL 6-6 PIT 6-6 HOU 5-7 TEN 5-7 That's not a "1% chance" by any stretch; they were a game back of the final spot. And keep in mind, of those 6 teams, HOU had a better record after 8 games than NYJ & BAL. They were very much in the mix.
I agree that the INT was a killer, but the poor game plan helped make that happen. If the Texans had been running the ball from the beginning (a strategy that worked in the first game and was averaging 7 yds/carry on Monday), the Colts could not have put the constant pressure on Schaub. That caused the interception as much as anything else.
No doubt about that, but Schaub threw it right to the guy, he could have looked to another guy that was open and not covered. Neither Schaub nor Kubiak is having that great of a season. DD
Schaub didn't see the defender. It was pretty apparent from his angle that he didn't see the defender who picked it off.
Idk if it has already been stated, but how many games has Kubiak had his team 'ready' for? honestly, it appears like the first game of the season and..........
i think this may be the biggest knock against kubiak. i mean, how often does this team look completely unprepared at the beginning of a game? they routinely come out flat, unorganized, and with a clear lack of intensity. who else can that possibly fall on but kubiak? it's just so damn frustrating watching this team... this is our 9th season of existence, 5th with kubiak at the helm, and here we are with the same mediocrity, same mistakes, same damn excuses.
Kubiak should have been gone midway through last year .......instead gets the extension.....and now we get to suffer for how long? Win or lose today is yet another display of his incompetence.
Even after last week, I was in Kubes corner. Not anymore. Down by 6, 3 timeouts left, 4th down and 1, on your opponents 34, no-huddle QB sneak with 3+ mins left, ignoring the best RB in the NFL and relying on arguably the most slow-footed QB in the NFL? Really?!?!?!?!?!?!?
I was on the Kubiak bandwagon until today. I no longer think he is the guy to take this franchise to next level.
I won't kill him for today's loss BUT the above play is a killer and I didn't like passing it twice inside the 4 at the end of the 1st half, although it wasn't a horrible call.
