He was playing like a potential all star. Wow! Is he the SG version of the more famous 24th pick Sam Cassell?
Games like this remind me he was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school and top 10 in his class for a damn reason. If there was no Kevin Porter Jr or Jalen Green on this team his numbers are significantly better and we’re probably talking about an all rookie team and seeing him as a much more important piece to the rebuild.
Yeah, i really hope his carreer progression will be like Jaylen Brown.. keep improving from year to year basis.. he’s fearless and have so many moves finishing around the rim, good hustle and effort, grown man body while only 20 years old (dooesn’t hurt if he keeps growing though), active communicating on defense and also seems like a likeable guy by his teammates.. and some people speculating he’s been picked by the Rockets just because he’s friend of Jalen Green, lol..
Josh is special for someone so young. A few bad performances doesn't pull him down at all. He works hard and makes a strong comeback.
I'd like to make Christopher our 6th man and move Gordon/Wall/Wood/KPJ for a roster rebalance, no disrespect to KPJ, his increased value is exactly the point. A steadier assist-to-turnover PG and 3&D (note: DEFENSE) wings would make the roster more balanced, versatile, and fill some large gaps will relieve pressure on other players. Especially given that a bigman pick is looking likely this year. We have dynamic guards, but as the 2010s showed us, savvy wings and rangey bigs are the key to having a top 10 defense that gives your offense fuel to operate efficiently. I also don't think our team has any veteran lead-by-example defensive wings/guards to mentor the youngins and I think that's critical. Christopher, Martin, Garuba have the motors but they could really use a PJ Tucker sensei. Sengun and this year's picks could really use a Mutombo.
this man needs to b more consistent, his performances varies from Jalen Green's friend to Jaygup, potential star.
I'm not sold on KPJ being the long term answer as the starting point, don't mind him in a reserve role. I'm kinda wait and see where the lotto balls fall and what the offers might be before I'm ready to ship Wood out the door. If you don't get Chet I find it hard to move Wood. Sengun & Garuba aren't enough .... If you don't get a lotto pick in return, I don't think you trade him either. Offensively he's pretty damn good .... Have to take into account that this was the worst defensive team in the league all year .... and the biggest issue is Wood & Sengun in the middle. Both are far below average defenders in the paint & as rim protection (At least Sengun tries). With that kinda play behind you .... its hard to have a very good DR. If either Wood or Sengun are seen as the long term solution as 5's, they need a special defender at the 4 .... that may only exist in NBA2k or our imagination's ....
Consistency is what makes good and great NBA players. But it's not just offensive stats. Consistency is also needed in effort and defense. He's got the effort covered. The defense is pretty good for a rook and will only get stronger. A better defined role and more consistent playing time will help improve those two things as well as his offense. He's 20 and is willing to work. I'm not worried. He'll be more consistent than Corey Brewer for sure.
I've never paid much attention to this website's sports talk, I go there every week or so for food/booze/movies/tv stuff. https://uproxx.com/dimemag/josh-christopher-rookie-season-breakdown-houston-rockets/ Curious what the board thinks about this (the "I'm an English Lit grad talking about hoops" verbiage gets to be a bit much in places) but it's definitely in depth re: his rookie year, strengths and weaknesses, and his potential fit coming off the bench.
