    But he didn't

He has been very lucky on balls in play and strikes out. .571 BABIP is unsustainable and 40% K rate is terrible.

Those numbers are not MLB worthy. He needs to go back to AAA and keep working.

ML sample size is way too small to determine anything about his performance. Exceeding expectations, luck and sustainability are all indeterminable at this point.

You can say he has not had enough opportunity. You can say the sample size is too small to be definitive.

    Both I agree with.

You can not say his .571 BABIP may be sustainable but we haven't seen enough to know.

Ty Cobb has the best ever BABIP in MLB history and it's. 383.

Lmao funny the sample size is to o small for Joey but folks were clamoring and calling for Dusty’s job over Diaz. Hypocrites.

He hasn’t played enough consistently to draw any conclusions. To my eye, he hasn’t looked over matched or a break out star - but the advanced numbers are so small and mixed.

I don’t expect him to be Kyle Tucker or even George Springer - but I do think him being a long term starter is not that far fetched. He has shown the ability to make a LOT of adjustments, he can play multiple positions and he works hard and is smart - and arguably has MLB talent.

I could see him kind of taking the same route McCormick has, but I like his power a little more.

Him going back to AAA without ever having played an MLB inning at 1st is mind boggling.

I get that they think he's an OFer long term, fine, there's no reason to not keep him as flexed as possible, particularly when 1st is an offensive weakness for us. There's a perfectly real chance that a Dubon/Loperfido 1st base platoon is a great option by years end.

But I thought you said the organization may just think this is who he is? A utility guy who will play in certain match ups?

    Yes.

I'm just saying the writing was on the wall based on him sitting on the bench.
.clearly they did not see what they wanted from him and want him to go back down and work on things - my guess is not watching so many good pitches and striking out as much.

He is getting drills at 1st and working with big league coaches. They made the decision to not overwhelm him by playing 1st and adjust to MLB pitching. I asked about it and was told Espada made decision to ease him in.

The team is worse today without Loperfido on it.

You know what's more terrible? Someone that can't break .100 BA and it is questionable if he can have as many hits as errors.

Stupid move. He's hitting .333 with an .817 OPS. But, hey, at least we have 47 year old Jose Abreu back!

I don’t disagree, but they want him to get at bats.

This would be easier to believe if they made the "obvious" decisions more regularly

They haven't seen the things they want from him to play him more

But they have no issues bringing Abreu back, and he is going to play. They have no issues leaving Bregman in the cleanup spot.

But they haven't seen what they want from Loperfido for him to play

    Got it

I have a feeling that Espada doesn't have a choice... this is far worse than the Osweiler situation with the Texans or the Lin/PBev playing time drama.

Baseball has always been frankly stupid.....everyone can see that Abreau needs to be cut, yesterday...the team is already behind they have no room to spare.

Cut the OLD ****S and play the young bucks.

    That includes Bregman.
