Yep, if you've got the ability to play on the IF, all you have to do is learn the footwork, instincts, and assignments to be able to play 1B, and *that's* the hard part of playing it.
I'm honestly not expecting much. For me, the more important thing is that they FINALLY did SOMETHING! I mean, he might completely flame out, but at least they're no longer ignoring the problem.
Put Dubon at first and end this dreadful experience with Abreu… Loperfido can go straight to the outfield.
This - he plays more centerfield than anywhere else on the field. Long term he has a good chance of ending up in centerfield next year if the plays well enough - with the Astros looking for a 1st baseman via trade or signing. As for this season - he needs to play CF when Meyers doesn't and he needs to play 1st when Meyers does..... so far, Meyers has earned the CF nod.
I haven't checked in a few weeks, but the last I checked he was playing more CF than anywhere else and doing a good job. He plays some 1st as well and is considered a good fielder there. He has said his preference is CF, which I get, it is probably better for his career prospects and lets be honest, CF is far more fun to play than 1st base.
Have the Astros announced the corresponding moves yet? I haven’t seen anything. Are they waiting until tomorrow since there is a day off?
I am assuming they are waiting until the day of because they are having to DFA or release somebody. It’s also possible they are trying to complete a trade before announcing the moves. If rumors are to be believed they are working with the White Sox, it’s possible if they can’t get a deal done that they will just release Abreu instead.
Man, I remember 2014-2016 when we used to get really excited about bringing up a prospect. Probably because their names were Springer, Correa and Bregman.
I feel like I already debunked this? I guess it depends on your definition of "a lot" His minor league totals were under 25% and he never had a season of 27% or worse. Joey has been over 30% ever since he got to AAA last season. Judge also has a MUCH better overall hitting profile than Joey.
Obviously he isn't being sent down, but what's going on with Chas? I always felt he was an overachiever who would not he above average more than a few seasons, but I expected those to last thru 2025 at least. He is down across the board in every metric. Hitting, fielding, running, throwing. It's like he finally got to arbitration and is making money and decided to let himself go.
I like Loperfido and I'm higher on him than most around here. I'm thinking he's going to give the team a couple of months of good Tyler White. After that, how he adjusts after pitchers make adjustments will determine if he's a long term answer. Good luck Joey.
He can play either, was my point. And shut the **** up about "fun" while doing it. 1B was a hell of a lot of fun back in the day...you were involved in every IF play and got the scoops to test out the glove. OF can get boring AF until it comes at'cha.
If he performs like Taylor Jones in his peak, I am happy from this nuclear waste site of first base we currently have.
