But...but...BaEz!!! I mean, judging Click's 27 months on the job to Luhnow's 9 years, I just don't understand how one can even do that. Luhnow stripped the team down. Nailed it (mostly) with some of his draft picks. Traded away much of the farm to fill in gaps. Click took over after the unsurfacing of the cheating scandal and had to deal with not having a 1st and 2nd round pick in two years (because of Luhnow's tenure...not pointing fingers, just pointing as to when it occurred), a depleted farm system already (to bring in JV, Greinke, Cole, etc), the Covid season that had a literal roster freeze followed by a 60 game season (where there were less sellers than normal) and a lockout, plus a tax that was right up against the threshold. And yet, the Astros were within a game of the World Series and in the World Series next year. My thing about the Click complaints is what Rileydog mentions above. I see a lot of "Click should have made the team better." Just generic comments that offer no answer to the question of what should have Click done. Get a better catcher? Who, and how, and with what money/prospects? Get a better CF? Marte was signed quickly, and the trade possibilities (Reynolds and Mullins) seem to have extremely high prices. Get better at SS? If Correa wasn't going to get that contract from the Astros, did you think Story or Seager were? This isn't MLB the Show where you can make a trade or sign a FA just by pushing buttons, so I'm wondering what deals these Click naysayers would actually make. Say what you want about Snake's trade proposals, at least he tries to explain himself rather than just "Click should do something." Oh...and um...Pena is awesome. Did anyone notice on his game winning homer that he flew out of the box? Was damn near to 2nd by the time it was officially a homer. Loved seeing that, instead of standing there and watching it and winding up at 1st if the ball doesn't go over. If it had hit the wall, he would've been at 3rd instead of 1st. Hope he continues doing things like that.
Is. With his defense at SS and how hard he hits the ball, he would likely need to strikeout 30% or more not to be a star. Maybe he isn't a superstar, but he should at least be a Trevor Story level star (though he might not have that one amazing season as great as Story had) that routinely puts up 3-WAR with a couple of seasons well over that when he has a good year and under when he has a bad year.
And 2018 was the year Kyle Tucker debuted. Next year they’ll have a handful of guys who could be in the ROY mix (Lee, Brown, Leon, Whitley).
I want them to either through trades or fa to have a catcher on the roster that can bat .200. Not looking for stars Bottom line is the team is regressing. I'm done with this conversation.
So basically, you want Castro to get back to form. While I agree this team is regressing from 2019, no team has been better than the 2019 Astros since then. It should not be a surprise that the Astros couldn't keep everyone as Crane wasn't going to pay $250M to keep the team together.
hahahhahaha. Now you don’t want to replace stars with stars. You want the team to let stars go and replace them with a catcher who can hit over .200 and not regress. comedy gold. Bye
That's where I would start. Tell me if you think the team has done anything with the everyday lineup that wasn't already here. No you can't replace superstars with superstars on this budget. But can either trade for young up and coming guys. Say like Alvarez, or for solid everyday guys. Instead of signing the Siri, Goodrum s of the world. Enjoy what you're seeing now because it's not going to get better. BTW, is it too much to ask for your catchers to hit over .100? I don't care how good they are defensively they're major liabilities.
I want Lee to get his shot come June 1st. No they weren't going to be as good. But there was money to spend to be better than they are now. Unfortunately it got spent in the wrong places the last couple of off-seasons or not at all this last off-season.
How do you know what they had to spend? Attendance was 800k less than 2019 last season because of COVID. They also lost money in 2020.
When he said no they gave that 33 million for this season to Verlander and Neris.... Then they ghosted Correa...
