dude - I have a buddy in ATL that says no way they take Bogut - even though he is a good player (better than Okur) - the Hawks need someone that will put people in the seats back to the basket centers won't do it I will go to Charlotte (front court of Bogut and Okafor would be nice) or maybe NO, so they can trade Miglore
Why even be eligable for the draft? Why can't he just sign w/ the Jazz or whomever as free agent? Can't you refuse the whole draft process??
Nah...there's rules preventing that. Can't remember the details, but you can't enter free agency until you have reached a certain age/level of NBA experience.
Dunno about that. If you are as good as advertised and a team loves your game why can't they pay you millions with being drafted? Also, should you have some say on where & what team you want to play for?
Maybe it has to with age and not NBA experience b/c I recall Tim Breaux or Toni Kuko (sp?) not having NBA experience.
bogut will go to Atlanta if he is drafted by them as much as part of me thinks Bogut in utah would be a nice fit, the rest of me wants to puke at even the thought of it
The point of the draft order is to send the best players to the worst teams, so they have a chance to get better. If you allow the players to pick which teams they want to play for, then all the talent will go to the best teams in the league (plus NY and LA) and franchises like the Hawks, Hornets, etc will suck forever. Look at what LeBron James has done for the Cavs in two years. You go to whoever drafts you and you try your best to help them win. If the team improves, great. If not, you have the option to leave in a few years.
I'm not sure about Tim Breaux, but I'm fairly certain Toni Kukoc first entered the league before the current CBA was in place.
Of course, since it was in the opening post, you're about 28 posts too late. I can't believe that these pro sports teams let 20-22 year old kids push them around like this. The GMs have to grow a pair and tell these punks that they're going to play where they are drafted, and they're going to like it. If not, you can always scratch around for a $30K/year job like 95% of all other college kids and spend the rest of your life kissing the boss's ass at christmas parties for an extra $1.50 an hour.
As an Aussie that would like to see the best Australian probably ever to start his career in the NBA.....I would HATE to see him end up with the Jazz. I think when this sort of thing happens the NBAPA and the NBA itself should come out and remind these players that how things work.
and then the players will remind them they have the irreplaceable commodity, their talent. you can either choose to appease that type of talent or not but the players have the power to do with their talent as they please. if it's worth it to them to sit out a year with no millions and reenter the draft and go to a team they want, they can do that. the nba can't force them to join the league. if they can get to where they want with their talent then they should. what do these kids care about the nbapa? the nbapa is trying to keep 18 and 19 year olds out by basically saying since they're not here to collectively bargain, we don't care how they feel. the rookies don't owe them anything.
While I understand the reason for the draft, I do know that if, when I got out of law school, somebody came up to me and told me that I had to go work in Detroit or Tampa or some other lousy city for a lousy firm, where I didn't want to live or work because they need more quality attorneys there, I'd be rather pissed and think it was unfair.
Of course, had you gone to law school knowing that was how it worked, you wouldn't really have a right to be pissed. Well, you'd have a right, but I'd also have a right to call you a baby.
Of course if there were only 30 law firms in the US, you'd probably be happy just to get a job with one of them.
not if he was the best and most promising law school student in the country, guaranteed to be hired at the firm of his choosing for a large amount of money.
