I really like this kid, liked him since summer league: lots of mistakes then, but you could see they were fixable. Excellent attitude. Brings positive energy on the court.
yep, the Lowry similarities have been there: both drafted #24, both with heavy-set… uhmmm .. posteriors… However JC is taller and more athletic. Also, Kyle was a sulker for many years until he figured out how to lead and elevate teammates up. JC is a sparkling and positive personality. So he can get even better and sooner than KLow got there. Still a long way to go, but I like what I see, a lot!
He’s always had that finishing ability. He’s always had a good handle with some shake. He’s lethal in transition. If he can reliably be the solo point of attack defender and navigate screens… you’ve got something special to work with IMO. His development should be talked about more.
Lowry isn’t a bad projection. I can see that. When we initially drafted him, the high school and college highlights (see below) gave me Donovan Mitchell vibes because of his stocky build and explosiveness. We aren’t really featuring him offensively in that way and he seems to be being groomed as more of a combo guard that maybe can eventually slot as a full time point guard. Something between Eric Gordon and Kyle Lowry would be an awesome end result for him.
Jaygup has definitely made impressive strides considering that all that 99% of us knew about him on draft night was that he was a friend of Green's.
looks like he baited Westbrook by looking to the side and being ready to poke his crossover, showed some emotion after. Kid is mature, comes from a basketball family and it shows.
https://theathletic.com/3064221/202...alen-green-and-rest-of-houstons-young-roster/ Kelly Iko: Moving to the other parts: You’ve gone into great detail already about the main course, so the sides can be brief. Where do you see guys like Josh Christopher and Alperen Sengun? What’s their development been like from your vantage point? Sam Vecenie: […] Christopher has been fun, too. He’s much more ready to play than I expected after his disaster season at Arizona State. His defensive effort has been there consistently. He’s finished well on a limited basis as a straight-line driver and transition threat. A lot of the same polish stuff said above about Green could be said about Christopher (he needs to improve as a shooter and add some versatility off the bounce). But one thing I will say is that I absolutely love that Christopher, and the Rockets’ staff seems to have a plan about how to get him on the court and make him effective long-term. Back in his high school career, Christopher was a midrange assassin who settled in as a tough shot maker. However, I don’t really think he’s athletic enough or dynamic enough as a creator to consistently do that at the NBA level. So instead of trying to just make that work at all costs, he and the team seem to be trying to reshape him as a 3-and-D wing to start, who then can hopefully add some of the prior midrange shooting stuff to his game. They’re trying to make him an effective player first then work at the tough stuff, as opposed to trying to make the really crazy, difficult-to-master stuff happen first. That’s really smart from everyone around, and I think Christopher deserves an immense amount of credit for being willing to reshape his game in that way. Not all players are as willing as he is.
Minny and Philly highlights. All possessions. Josh is looking like a player. These are good defensive teams.
Stephen Silas needs to get some sleep, man. He looks exhausted Say what you want about Silas as a coach, but I have no doubt he's a crazy hard worker with a great personality. I actually think he and JC are a great fit together.
Silas is a lot like VanGundy - the stress of the NBA gets too him, he prob rewatches practice and games til he falls asleep …. Add in losing and a hardheaded Wood and man is aging faster than the President lol
I like Christopher, but someone said that he really struggles with understanding angles and that's very apparent. I consistently see guys get by him less because of their speed and more because Christopher hasn't cut off the obvious gap with his positioning. That being said, I think as a guard his strength actually gives him a little more overall potential than Green (who's so lightweight that I wonder if he'll ever be able to finish through contact).
