The Corey Brewer comparison is just hilarious less than 10 games in. You’d have to be pretty stupid to make the comparison so soon.
Soon? You can't ever make that comparison because their skillets are completely different. Teams don't ask Brewer to be the ball handler in a pick and roll. He's a ro man 3 and D guy. He never has had advanced footwork and ball handling to create separation with the defender. He isn't going to dish out dimes like Green can out of a pick and roll. Brewer was never that. He was always molded at best a project that could be an elite 3 and D player.
He's had his moments, just as Green has had his moments. We can talk about who Green may become one day, but right now he's just a streaky shooter who doesn't do very many things well other than be REALLY athletic.
Okay. So ya, Brewer was never the ballhandler and shot creator that Green is right now at this very moment. Green is missing but he's creating speration and generating offense for others in the pick and roll and shows advanced footwork and ball handling for his age.
I would say you highly overestimate Green's CURRENT ability to handle the ball....and the ability to create shots where you brick 3's or get blocked at the rim isn't as awesome as you seem to think it is. There's absolutely nothing "advanced" about Jalen Green's game. He's just a super athlete. Now he's very young, so maybe he learns the game one day, but that's not the player he is today.
the corey brewer similarities are there. Brewer’s handle was brutal and never improved. JG’s handle is pretty bad and has the same high-dribble, but doubtful will be as bad as Brewer’s as his was just ugly. OTOH Brewer had the wingspan and was a pretty decent defender right away (not great, though). Here’s his scouting report, you’ll see the similarities in how they were perceived comin-in. JG’s talent level coming-in is just a bit higher, which justified a #2 selection over a #7 selection. https://www.nbadraft.net/players/corey-brewer/
Nah. Green's handle is pretty damn good for his age and not being a primary point guard. He can operate the pick and roll really well with his handle and can change pace to time when the roll man breaks free. He also creates amazing speration off the dribble with advanced foot work.
Agree with the assessment that Jalen has major similarities to Brewer. Spot on, IMO. The rook has a long way to go and may never get there.
It's crazy how the Jalen Green fanbois have reacted to that....I mean, Brewer was a top 10 pick for a reason. There were super high hopes for him when he started his career, he just never got there.
The Brewer comp made me curious. Went and look it up; he officially announced retirement last year. 13 years in the NBA, (longer than the average for sure), #7th pick, career earning of $55 mil, not the highest for role players, still not a bad haul. The comp comes off as a mild slander, to Green and to Corey. If Brewer reads this board (which i doubt), he be like...
And that means what to you? Have they started giving points for how much space you create on a stepback?
Tap the breaks with the Corey Brewer comps, he is far better offensively and can pass and dribble much better. Me thinks you might have an agenda.
Evan Mobley, unfortunately, looks like he was clearly the correct pick at #2. Already looks like a generational talent.
Yeah, it happens. At least we'll have another top 4 pick in the next draft to have another shot at getting the draft right.
Green won't be the first player who started with high expectations but took awhile to meet them. Steve Nash and Dennis Rodman come to mind. On the other hand, some never meet the high expectations. Frankly, Green flashes some high level athleticism, but falls short on basketball skills, so far. Frankly, I expected more after seeing his clips. However, the NBA is at an entirely different level. Don't know, time will tell, but it is hard not to be a little disappointed after all the hype.
