Parts of the Steele Dossier were absolutely true. But I feel like most libs understood that an intelligence dossier doesn't purport to tell undisputed facts. That isn't the purpose. It is a collection of rumors and any additional support for those rumors that Intel has been gathering. It is merely seeds for more investigation. It was the right that emphasized the Steele Dossier most in an attempt to use it as a strawman.
For anyone that read the actual Mueller Report knows that the Steel Dossier had very little to do with it. Also the indictments and convictions obtained from the Mueller report had little to do with the Steel Dossier.

Grassley and Cornyn said the whistleblower was highly credible and criticized the DOJ and FBI for political bias in not disclosing the FD1023 form with the allegation, which they knew could not be relied upon on its own. For months, Republicans played this card, and now the whistleblower is not only charged with lying, but the FBI said he was in close contact with Russian intelligence. This looks exactly like another disinformation move by Putin to weaken Biden and to interfere with our political process and election (no surprise). The Republican leadership and party seem ready and willing to be fooled for political gains, played by the Russian dictator almost perfectly. Let's also remember that the GOP-led Congress censured Schiff for 'misleading the public and spreading false accusations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.' Of course, the Mueller Report and the GOP-led Senate Intelligence Committee Report concluded that the Russian government engaged in election interference and that Trump campaign manager Manafort worked directly with a Russian intelligence officer. If we apply the same Republican's standards, they should hold themselves accountable and self-censure for misleading the public and spreading false accusations that Biden accepted $5M in bribes.
