There are plenty of issues with an impeachment inquiry based on suspicion rather than alleged wrongdoing. I don’t think I need to list them all out for any fair minded person.
As I said in the other thread, happy to have an inquiry. Politicians should probably be getting investigated all the time anyway, considering our vulnerability to them. I don't expect them to find anything earth-shattering, but if they do we can toss the dude. I think he's been a fine president but there is always another guy in line.
Who does Joe Biden think he is? Donald Trump? If lying is all it took to bring an impeachment, Trump would have been impeached 30,000 times. Your extremely low bar for impeachable behavior is not a serious opinion.
They need to hurry up and impeach him. Then do it 2 more times. That will really piss off Trump. "I was the most impeached President until Joe Biden and Commie Dems had to take my record. Scam! Sad!"
Republicans are the masters of moving forward with no evidence if they have actual evidence, not conspiracies/hearsay/outright lies, then I’m all ears
Who said it was impeachable behavior? If the lies lead them to the impeachable behavior, then so be it. The last dude was impeached multiple times.
Yeah I think the problem is the media being a bit played by McCarthy yesterday though. Substantively nothing really changed. The Trump DOJ and the courts agreed a few years back that until the House takes a full vote, the executive branch can block most of these subpoenas that are not legislative in nature. So nothing is really changing here, and the House can go about investigating as they were before, and as you say... as they should since they oversee the executive branch constitutionally. However the media is covering this as if impeachment proceedings are happening for sure, and people who aren't in the know who only might catch 2 minutes of the Today show with Savanah and Hoda, hear "Congress... Impeachment.... Biden"... and just automatically think "Oh I guess Biden is corrupt too... All politicians suck, and that's why I watch Football instead of CNN at night." Then when they go to the ballot box, in their minds they can justify a vote for someone like Trump pretty easily not knowing the facts, just thinking they all suck equally, and recalling that Trump has a plane, and a bunch of gold stuff, therefore he must be good with money, and therefore the US economy is magically going to be better under Trump. If I'm making a portion of the US voter sound ignorant.... that is intentional... and I can't say I blame people for checking out, and only focusing their time and energy on sports, etc. However that ignorance is what got us Trump in the first place vs. a much more competent Hillary Clinton. This is America I guess. It's what we have to work with, and it's the main reason why Joe Biden's team needs to take this serious, and not rely on American voters doing the intellectual hard work here.
I feel like this is being timed to make Biden seem as corrupt and as scandal ridden as Trump in the upcoming election cycle. That way, people won't believe there is a clear cut difference between the two. I haven't seen anything that indicates the impeachment will be successful, but it will capture headlines, and the GOP will play it up.
The report yesterday from Politico tells you all you need to know. This is a Trump led election strategy he thinks helps him because "Well... see Joe Biden is just as bad." It's that simple. Kevin McCarthy knows this hurts the House's chances in 2024, and also that it might very well help Joe Biden, but in the end Trump has his number. He made him speaker, and can take his speakership away at any point. The thing I find astounding is how stupid Trump continues to think his voters are. Over and over again he reminds America how dumb he thinks his base is. Where he's often been wrong is his ego thinking he can somehow persuade more and more Americans in the middle to join the Trump cult. He's been right that yes... there have been more dumb white racist schmucks out there who didn't vote in the past that can be recruited, but electorally it hasn't been shown to be effective against the electorate that is more reliable, and has so far outpaced what Trump has gained in his base.
in particular the 18 House Repugs in swing districts that Biden had beaten Trump handily. should they vote for the Biden, They Might Make Democratic Recapture of the House More Likely
a majority of the House---including GOPers such as Liz Cheney.Adam Kinsinger----and Senate---including Repug Romney
Trump wasn’t impeached for lying otherwise they could’ve impeached him for saying Mexico was going to pay for the wall, he doesn’t have time to play golf or any number of easily proven lies. he was impeached for actions as the President to corruptly politically benefit himself and negligence of duty.
I’m. It clear what your point is either. You wrote that lies led to impeachable behavior on Trump’s part. I guess that is true with Jan. 6 as it was his claims that he won the election to a mountain of contrary evidence that compelled many of those. His first impeachment though he wasn’t lying he was pressuring another head of state to open an investigation to benefit him politically. What lies do you think Joe Biden is telling is leading to impeachable behavior?
