Bring along your hot wife and turn her into a Rockets fan. Train your daughters to be Rockets fans from young.
Man, don't worry. However, should Rockets make it to the final showdown, ... You would have a really really hard time.
I would go with DD on this one... who cares about the cost... if your going to be next to the beach in any country... expect the cost to rise for everything... Direct tv sounds like the way to have gone... you could have had your cake and eat it too.... Rocket games... spent with the family at the beach... how much could it have cost? $1,000 installed? you can fly your whole family down to DR... but cant come up with $1,000???
As a Rockets fan, or fan of any NBA team, it should already be known not to plan any vacation during the playoffs. Couldn't you push it back a few months into July.
I would take the vacation with my family. This is only a game! and if not for Yao Ming, I wouldn't even be watching this game except for sports center highlights.
LOL!!!! OddsOn...I am cracking up. Here is the thing...and don't get me wrong here. I am thinking of preparing for the worse case scenario. So, last night, I did buy a ticket for the 4th of May. I can get a refund on it if I don't use it. So... IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, IF, the Rockets get eliminated in round one, I guess I can surprise the crew. They will definitely notice my depression because not only did my most favorite team in the whole world lose, but I will be divorcing my Coach. So, I will need alot of Coronas and beach time to get me better.
Neither. But IMHO you shouldn't have been dishonest. If you want your choice in some perspective... For our 20th anniversary my wife wanted us to attend a religious retreat in France in late June of 1994. The choice? Get to watch the Rockets in the Finals against NYK or be in France with no TV. (By the way she is a Rockets fan, too.) I went to France with the Rockets schedule and called KPRC newsroom in the wee hours of the morning to see what happened after each game. Because the series went seven games, I was able to see the seventh game (we got in the Saturday evening before that game) and enjoy it just as much as if I'd seen the other games. I got to see them win the championship! You actually have an easier choice. You're only talking about maybe missing some games in the first or second round. What you're hoping for is to see them in the WCF or in the Finals. If they get bounced in the first round and you've subjected yourself to every minute of that anguish you won't enjoy the remainder of the trip if you join your family as much. Whereas if your with them, you'll no doubt feel down if the Rockets don't make it out of the first round but I'm sure it won't sting as much since you won't have to see it. There was no option of DirecTV for me in France. And that might be workable but at this point your family may question your original explanation if you go to the trouble to set up DTV in the DR. Go have fun with the family, keep tabs on the Rockets somehow, and look forward to enjoying watching them when you get back. It's definitely not like missing the Finals.
ok - so advice from another family man: Buy a ticket now. Go on your holiday and hope the Rockets are still alive in the post-season when you get back. It's even WORSE if you watch the first round, the Rockets lose and THEN you 'surprise' the family. I'm sorry - but it's a pretty major lie --> effectively the Rockets are the mistress in your relationship.... and maybe you need to let your wife in on just how much enjoyment the HOBBY of following the Rockets is? Surely if she really cares for you, then she'll understand that and *shock horror* even encourage your support of them? I know my wife supports my sporting habits to the extent that she even watches the games without me if I'm late getting home... and even knows players names. She's not a fan - but she lets me be one. Communication.
Not only are you being a jerk by disin' your family over a sporting event and lying about it (sorry, but gotta call it as I see it), you might be tilting the Karma against our beloved Rox. If we lose out in the first round I will be flaming Almu in a post near you!
Yep, my daughter 3 1/2 has had this phrase down pat: "The Red team is T-Mac and the ______ team (white/orange..whatever) is poo-poo!!" Now, I just need to let her know that home games...roxs where white too But she Identifies with Roxs Red and loves the games in person(not just the activities) but the game action too! Now, must work on my 2 day old girl!! To the OP, do you not feel the least bit concerned about the safety of your girls? You better hope nothing happens to them or you might remember this move for a long time. Hope all go's well for you. I for one have an understanding that I will not vacation such that a Roxs game would not be available for me to see..and she is cool with that.
Had to bring the thread back... Felt the guilt ushered in by the BBS crew here so...I bought a ticket for May 6. That will still give me about two weeks of time before coming back. Now...I also bought me a Samsung LCD this past week. And Directv just finished hooking me up with HD! Dropped the kids and the wifey off yesterday morning and they are safe and sound with the bro in law and sis in law enjoying 85 degree weather. So...its that time finally. I am ready. I miss my family...but...SOME THINGS TAKE SACRIFICE!!!!! GO ROCKETS! LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY RED GLARE!!!
