If JVG can't make Francis play in the right way, who else coud do that? Rudy is the ultimate player's coach and he failed...JVG is the the toughest guy and if he fails also.....:( Will we be able to say Francis is uncoachable? I hope that day would never come.

If JVG can't do it, there are only 2 or 3 other NBA coach who could possibly done that:

Phil Jackson, Larry Brown & perhaps Pat Riley...

I think Phil Jackson would be perfect.... No matter how stubborn Steve is...he's nowhere close to the young MJ.

Larry Brown would have been a better coach. He coached the sixers to the finals in 2001. They didn't win but still they were in the playoffs. I think he could have led the rockets much better than Van Gundy. The Van Gundy Staff is a joke so far. They better step up their game during the regular season or else they will be home watching other teams go through the playoffs yet again

Rudy T did a much better during the 2002 preseason. They won 4 preseason games out of 7. So far, 4 games lost and 3 more to go.

Anyone read today that we are last in scoring in the NBA for the preseason?

Of course Larry Brown would have been better, he was voted best coach by the NBA's GM's. I was pretty dissapointed when he went with Detroit, but oh well.

Don't forget JVG coached the Knicks to the Finals too, losing to the Spurs. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the preseason either, just as long the Rockets are on the same page when the season start, everything will work out, hopefully. ;)

I only report what I hear. Rudy is most likely going to Portland. However, I heard the Dallas rumor over the weekend.

I've been on this site much longer than '99 however, I rarely ever post.

The 4 losses were discouraging but the win tonight has my hopes up again. I like Van Gundy. I can't wait to see him work with his actual 8 man rotation since so far he hasn't coached a game with more than 4 of them playing. Cuttino, Mo, Adrain Griffin, Eddie Griffin and Eric Piatkowski have all been injured at one point or another and because of that fact we haven't yet seen our top 8 or 9 play together yet. I'm optimistic.

Also, the quote "The two worst things to happen to basketball are god and golf." is quite possibly my favorite quote by any coach ever.

But it's all going to come down to the wins and losses and it's a bit premature to predict how that's going to go. I also think this crap about "it's obvious the players aren't into your weak system" is just the opinion of somebody who already has his mind made up about the situation. I haven't seen any indication of that. I've seen evidence that the change isn't easy for everybody, but none that they're outright opposed to it.

I dont like him either YET. Mostly becasue of 2 things.

    1) he brought in NY ppl instead of houston ppl. (Mario or others)

2)He called out the team b4 training camp even started. and it just felt like this new comer coach was calling out the rockets I have watched and loved over the past 4 years and that pissed me off.

its 2 am sry if I dont make sence

so which one is it? this doesn't make sense. coaches who have rings have tended to criticize players in the media. but van gundy is "whining". why? cause he doesn't have a ring?

I just think you will lose your players by going complaining to the media before the season starts and not keeping things in house.

just like rudy T did. yeah, really effective.

a lot of you guys were quick to jump down JVG's throat. I still say it's too early too tell, but I'm wondering if some of you guys are going to at least give the Rockets some time before passing judgement. I think we're going to be a very good team by year end, but I'm trying not to put too much weight early one given we've added a bunch of new players and a new coach.

I think the only reason this thread is not closed is that Rocket Rich NYC really is an insider. I read some of his past posts and they indicate he knows stuff.

However, this thread is shameful, stupid, and insider or not, starting this thread was idiotic.
