Don't think this happens w/o a deal already in place.

They want to keep and pay him now on the cheap before next year is my best guess...

Can we overpay him this year And then have the contract hit in the next 2 or 3 seasons be much much less?

Because he'd be an UFA after 2022-23 season if Houston exercised the option.

EDIT: This may actually be wrong on my part. Thought he would be an UFA if we exercised the option. Turns out that may not be the case.

Don't see why we would extend him. Personally, I think he's overrated combined with being an undersized PF that can't shoot.

Eason should have been his replacement.

    Plus.... KJ > Tate

I don't like this, it means we're keeping him.

Lol! Out of left field. Maybe a good gesture by the Rockets to Tate? Either a deal in place or a S&T because he’s about to get some offers.

I'd say this is something like 30M/3. As long as it's not something over like 12m per year it should be fine. The smartest play would be to give him something frontloaded. Like 15M or more next year but much less the next 2.

I think 2-3 years, 25-30 million so he can get back to FA before 30.
