Joe Rogan has a podcast where he talks about everything from the Earth being flat.... to the Earth not being flat.... to an all carnivore diet to a vegan diet.

I don't really understand why this is all a big deal. Joe Rogan says many things, some of them are well informed and some of them are not.... some of them are defendable and some are not.

He makes it clear that he isn't an expert, he is just someone that is curious and has a lot of life experience..... he lays out the qualifications of the people he has on his show and he has people often with conflicting opinions.

He can have someone on his show that is qualified as an expert but doesn't agree with the standard opinions on the issue or topic. No one has an issue when a religious figure claims creationism is the beginning of life, we all either believe it or do not.

The problem isn't Joe Rogan and he doesn't need to be "stopped" either.... he is just a guy with a podcast that tends to be very popular with middle class men under 50. So what?

The problem is that it all boils down to money. Rogan brings in lots of money so he gets a lot more leeway.

For example, my son has a reasonable following on his YouTube channel and is one of their leading money makers in the USA with super chat revenue. Yet, there is no way he could have guests on like Rogan does without getting strikes and eventually suspended.

The only consistency in sites censoring content is that it is inconsistent. Nick once got a strike for AGREEING with what Biden said during a speech about COVID. Appeals with youtube (not sure about Spotify) seldom work.

    It's complete fake outrage.

    like Gone with the Wind
like Snow White with 7 Dwarves

the only thing that was really offensive was what Whoopi Goldberg said, because that got a response from the Anti-Defamation League (which apparently lots of people don't know) , an organization that tracks anti-Semitic activity.

I take it you haven't listened to him lately. He made his mind up that the vaccine wasn't safe and then cherry picked doctors to tell that to his audience. Even when "experts" aren't on his show, he constantly gives out Covid misinformation. Given his audience size, a number of people who follow his advice will die. So how do you balance free speech with deadly misinformation?

I haven't listened to him in probably 8-10 months. I am not surprised that he is a skeptic of COVID (he was before then), but then he would have people with different views on the issue on his podcast. He had some that were mainstream when I listened before but I cannot say since then. He is someone that really changed his political and social views when he transitioned from being mostly around comedians and MMA guys and started being around the hunter and ex-military crowd.

I don't know how you balance it, I just don't like everyone with a contrary opinion being shot down like is the case in the world right now. I say that as someone that is highly skeptical of contrary opinions.

Rogan like plenty of other people believed misinformation about the vaccines. I'm not sure why he wasn't wise enough to stop pushing the misinformation. I don't think it matters that much, though. I think most people already have their minds made up about it. I don't think he's really swaying many people with his lack of knowledge.

I like people like Young that want platforms to put out better informed takes even there was more to the decision than just Rogan.

    I don't blame Rogan here.

He is not a guy who pushes narratives, he is a just a guy.

He frequently calls himself an idiot cage fighter commentator who you should not take advice from.

I have absolutely no issue with him.

When you're just a guy, and you recognize that you're just a guy, and yet you have a podcast which millions of people listen to regularly, do you have a responsibility to not put out "I'm just a guy" opinions that go against the grain of expert advice on topics that can have a major impact on public health?

Perhaps Spotify should ask Rogan to record himself acknowledging that he is a guy who should not be trusted on medical advice and have him put that in front of every podcast in which he decides to nevertheless give out that advice.

Yeah, he's just a guy who basically admits he doesn't know what he's talking about. So it seems like he shouldn't be pushing the misinformed narrative that he has been.

That's good because Rogan isn't being shut down or silenced... He's still on Spotify and many other platforms.
