Miami is such a weird place. On one hand Miami and places like West Palm Beach is a play ground for the super rich, on the other hand the majority of the Miami residents are dirt poor and the city pretty much always ranks in the bottom in terms of average income and near the top in terms of poverty rate for major US city. The place is a great to vacation at or to live at if you are 1) very rich or 2) retired With my current job I could have moved to Miami if I wanted and actually would have saved over $23K per year just in state income taxes, but with future employment opportunities in mind decided against it.

It's not too bad, but a lot of the reputation it has now was built during the 90's. It's not as glam as it was then when Versace still lived down there and the crowd today is much rowdier and young than it was then. It's still crazy expensive though!
