No doubt Paul had a disappointing year, but if you saw when tillman took the mike in 2019 demanding a killer mentality or the camera people forget he demanded a better result with a worse product. Who was our replacement for Ariza? James ennis on a minimum contract, he even cracked MDA’s frustratingly small rotation...then he was traded for a top 55 protected pick, coincidentally helping us get under the luxury tax. So unless you feel Morey stayed up at night and said this guy is in our small rotation, even 12 minutes of plus/minus can be a difference maker in the playoffs, why not hold on to hi.....nah, lets trade him for almost or pretty much nothing but a salary dump and make tillman smile, bc thats what this is about. That move helps no one...not the gm, players, future franchise flexibility, only helps the owner save money. That’s the problem with the several moves like that.

And more so, what makes harden/Paul’s situation worse is the glue guy. Basketball is about cohesion, if you watch too much espn you might think its just 1-1 with these marketable heroes and other guys just standing around cashing in checks. But you need the glue guys, the defensive schemes, etc.
Not only did we chase our Jeff bzdelik, who like most rocket staffers seem to leave to be with their family while finding a better contract with less haggle suspiciously,

Here’s what we missed according to Chris Paul himself:
“People don’t realize, that’s the biggest thing that we missed. That was tough when we lost [Ariza] because he sorta was like the glue. He was that glue for our team.”

So we replaced that with a minimum, traded him for a pick that never happens. We also wouldn’t cut Carmelo for the similar cap situation until we could trade him, even let Our league pick up Daniel house expire mid season and go home until it was viable in a way that didn’t hurt our tax. Does’t exactly scream to your organization that you are going to win at all cost, even if you scream to your organization that you are going to win at all cost.
