What are you talking about? Having a "yes man" working as GM makes it look EXACTLY like a "good ol boy system"....so how would that make it look less like one?

He's literally the middle man between a very hands-on coach... and a very hands-off owner.

    That's a yes-man.... or a go-fer.

Rick Smith being a yes man actually gives me comfort. It means moves from the Kubiak regime were contained in the past, and the BOB era will be different.

NFL Films is the responsible party... but it being on HBO allows it to air uncensored.

Well with Rick Smith being black it makes the business look more first class and unbiased but what it really is... is what it has always been a good ol boy system. Rick Smith is the perfect man and image he wants for the business.

LOL, you think? It might be shocking to some, but black guys can be "good ol boys" just like anyone else....unless you are trying to accuse McNair of being racist, and saying that he picked a black GM to hide that fact. If you are suggesting that, you should just say that instead of accidentally making a more accurate statement about it being a "good ol boy" system.

McNair didn't even pick Rick Smith... Kubiak did.

Why are you guys discussing this as if it were a question in the first place? Coaching staff has the final say on personnel while Rick overseas the scouts and contract negotiations. In free agency, the coaches tell the GM what kind of player they want at each position and it's the GM's an pro scouts jobs to bring back players that fit the bill. I thought this was pretty well known.

That said, it looked like OB was looking for Rick's opinion on Demps vs the rookie DE who got cut. He didn't just tell Rick to make the move. He didn't say "we like this guy better". He said "IF we like this guy better", as if he didn't know himself. He asked him if "we" liked Demps more, would that be a move "we'd" make. Rick said yes and OB said he was on board. And it was Rick and scouts at Demps' workout, not OB. When Bob said "we", I think he meant the organization, not himself personally, because from what we saw, he wasn't at the workout. He wasn't in a position to make that evaluation. He was putting that decision in the hands of Smith and his staff. And when he asked Rick if that's what "we" wanted to do and Rick said yes, he gave his OK.

I think Bob has the power to say, "no, I want this guy or this guy", but what we saw tonight was actually an example of Bob deferring to Rick's judgement. If Bob was just making the decision himself, he wouldn't have needed to to ask Rick anything or say he was on board with the decision after Rick answered.

another great ep. I'm loving this so much. Am always so surprised and disappointed when it ends because it has only felt like 15 minutes has passed

Charles James is making it. At LB, I haven't looked at the numbers, but I'd imagine either Kourtnei Brown or Trail aren't going to make it, right? I'd assume we have enough known depth that there aren't enough spots?

lol at the rick smith speculation. it's what it has always been, otherwise no way frank bush ever gets named as an equipment manager let alone a defensive head coach. he still has more power than people give him credit for. being a henchman for mcnair, goes a long way. he's never bothered me. our failures have more to do with the dead arm of one man.

Anyone that's a part of a good ol boy system is a product or asset of the good ol boy system no matter the race. Now there's things that the Texans strongly believe in that keeps their good ol boy system intact but I believe that's upper management. Bill Obrien to me comes across as a fair man that shows no favoritism granted there's speculation from a John McClain that he wanted Hoyer the whole time even before Mallet was a Texan. As far as Rick Smith you seen the Hard Knock episodes... he's clearly just a "Yes Man."

love the EP. I think EZ has to make it on this team as a WR....Strong might be practice squad. Charles James is a LOCK... the Cushing puking...was man.....gross.....

Also great to see Bill at home, didnt know about his son. And I like the part when the team made fun of Bill and JJ

No way Strong will not be on the ROSTER. He has to clear waivers to be on the practice squad. He would be snapped up by the Bucs, Titans or any other team immediately.
