O'Reilly is a talking head conservative opinion shaper who brings liberals on his show and just yells at them throughout the "interview" without giving them a chance to speak.

My sympathy is with this guy and his family, he was pretty brave to go on that show knowing what kind of person O'Reilly is.. I'm proud of him and I'm sure his father is too.

He yells at everyone he disagrees with, even conservatives. On one show, he covered the story of some young women who want to leave Saudi Arabia (I think their mom is American). He interviewed them, and they said the US was to blame for 9/11. O'Reilly said this proved they hate the US and they don't want to come. Well the problem was Saudi officials were present for the interview and would obviously punish them for saying the wrong thing.

A conservative wrote about this and came on the show and O'Reilly basically yelled at him the whole time and called him a bunch of names. O'Reilly also backed off his own position and said they were "brainwashed."

And after Matt Drudge posted some bad stuff on him, he went onto Imus in the morning and told Imus "There's one solution, kill Matt Drudge."

His ego is just too big, I'm just waiting for him to do something really stupid, like attack a guest or something.

Springer is a talk show filled with worthless nonsense. It is filled with people who yell at one another with little meaningful discussion and certainly no resolution. It's generally a way for people to get on TV and scream at one another for ratings.

THAT is how O'Reilly is comparable. Remove the audience and replace "quadrapalegic lesbian devil worshippers who steal my girlfriend" with news talk and you've got the makings of O'Reilly or the McLaughlin Group or Hardball.

Meaningful diaglogue and discussion about the news and politics is what you see in roundtable discussions on C-Span or Shields and Brooks on the Jim Lehrer News Hour. It's the rational discussion you might hear at a local political discussion group. Unfortunately, rational, civil debate rarely drives ratings which is why you get harsh, pedantic, overly-simplistic rants.

Why do you think Jim Rome is so damn popular? I mean, when the most popular political syndicated radio talk show and the most popular syndicated sports talk show share the fact that their respective listernerships are so rabid that they go around with "ditto" bumper stickers or calling themselves "clones", you can see the mentality. No need to think for ourselves. We'll just let some gas bag on the radio handle that for us.

I am all for reasonable discussion and rational analysis. But, the type of thing O'Reilly represents has very little to do with news analysis and more to do with stroking his own ego.

I don't have a problem with Hardball or McLaughlin Group. Sure, they yell at each other a lot but I can still get lots of good info out of them. And they let each other talk for the most part. O'Reilly doesn't let anyone talk for the most part. But I can see people hating all thse shows.

What I like about Rome is that he lets callers give their opinion for a good amout of time (as long as they aren't too stupid). Most talk shows seem to cut off callers pretty early and even be condascening to them.

Like or dislike the kid, O'Reilly is a twisted midf*cked conservative windbag and I would be ashamed of myself if I admitted that I watched his show with any regularity, because it would prove that I don't have a mind of my own.

You mean in the way that cc.net is similar to a p*rn site in that they're both on the internet? Your observation is way off. I doubt you've even seen enough of the show to comment. I seriously doubt you and Mrs. JB often sit home and watch the O'Reilly Factor.

Did anyone else see that SNL skit about O'Reilly. It was funny stuff. It had Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon stating just common facts and the guy playing O'Reilly just kept saying, "Nope, I'm not buying it for a minute. You can't prove that."

O'Reilly has all the argument skills of an 8 year old child.

I can't speak for Mr. JB's viewing habits, but I believe Mr. O'Reilly comes on at the same time as The Daily Show. And Jon Stewart decimates Bill O'Reilly in the cutie-pie competition ... so I gotta go with Stewart. :)

P.S. Stop dragging me into your arguments. ;)

that's really not fair...i don't think bill o'reilly actually got his entry form in on time in the cutie-pie contest. he's performed surprisingly well in that competition in years past. i was disappointed to see him excluded on a technicality like that.

You lawyers -- always looking for a legal loophole. Regardless of past performance, O'Reilly's cutie-pie prime has long since passed. It's time to get some fresh faces into the competition. My vote goes to Stewart!

hey...don't strike back with personal attacks! your boy is already developing grey hair. while i readily admit he is witty, o'reilly is a b**** to beat in the cutie-pie competition. when he puts on that speedo for the swimsuit competition, i only have two words for you, missy: "look out!"

Oh, Lord, the old, "I bet you don't even watch the show" argument. If I had never seen the guy, I wouldn't bother to comment. I did watch O'Reilly for a while to see what was up and it was annoying as hell. Just like listening to Democracy Now is/was annyoing as hell and I agree with most of what they have to say.

O'Reilly is all about O'Reilly. If he wanted to actually carry on a legitimate conversation, he wouldn't act like such a turd so often. And, it isn't his politics. I've heard him hammer conservatives too.

It's not his politics. It's his attitude. Even if I agreed with every damn word he said, I'd still think he was a jackass and that means more to me than the discussion in the first place. I tend to think you can tell more about a person by HOW they say something and HOW they act than by WHAT they actually say.

In the case of O'Reilly and a dozen other talk show blowhards just like him, they act like jerks.

As much of an 8yr old O'Reilly is when it comes to debate, I must add that he is twice as mature as that Alan Keyes guy. That dude used to squeal "Let me speak, this is my show!!" 5 times a segment!!

MadMax, I was surprised to read of your crush on O'Reilly. Not because he's a dude, but because his face is one only a demented mother could love.

Then I remembered you hang out with Refman! :D :D :D

now that is freaking funny!!! i literally laughed out loud!

i have no crush on o'reilly!! you and jeff are sorely mistaken. i don't like the New York Yankees...but damn it, I can't deny excellence. Same applies here. I have no amorous feeliings for Mr. O'Reilly...but I can't deny his potential in the cutie-pie contest. It's just science, RM95...and you can't argue with science.

I only said it because I know Refman's got a job now and maybe won't read it!

FWIW, I'm with Jeff. I get a massive headache whenever I watch any political discussion show like O'Reilly. It's just a bunch of yelling over one another, and it's sad that people take these people so seriously.
