Maybe this doesn't belong in its own thread, but thought I'd start one. Vaccines are rolling out, if slowly, but its starting to pick up a little bit. If you plan on getting it, or have already gotten it... Use this thread to post: Did you get it? Any side effects? Any place to sign up for it (especially for those over 65) right now? Any providers that you know of providing sign ups for notifications on when they have it available? We know three medical workers that have gotten their first dose already. Two experienced minimal or no side effects, one had flu like symptoms for a day, but was able work through it. Methodist has informed my parents that they will be texting them to get an appointment "soon" since they are over 65. I also signed them up with one of the distributors on this map that's near our house in case they get it first. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=91ac7fb5e5fd47e7ada4acfe4a05920a Also, allegedly HEB will post their sign up list for 65+ this week or next.
Good thread idea. I've talked to a few medical people who've gotten it, and each of them said sore arm after the first dose, a day of flu-like symptoms after the second one. They compared it to how the shingles vaccine knocks you down a bit after the 2nd dose.
It's going to be interesting to see how many Americans will get it by the end of 2021. We're probably close to 20% of the country having had the virus at one point and time about now. Hopefully, a similar number will be vaccinated, and by 2022 we'll be halfway out of this thing with it toning down quite a bit.
We are not even CLOSE to 20%. There are probably 350 Million in the US now. There are 21 Million confirmed case, just add another 5 to 10 million case that haven't been confirmed, that is still less than 10% of the population.
There have been studies that have said anywhere from 3 to 20 times more people have had COVID than have tested positive. That's a huge range, but 20% of the population has probably had it...especially with this recent surge. There are probably entire school systems where it swept through the student population and maybe only a few got sick enough to get tested. But that's for the other GIANT COVID thread. Where dos vaccines at
The Mrs got her first Pfizer dose a week or so ago. Sore arm for a few days but otherwise nothing notable. I'm getting first Moderna dose on Sunday. Both of us got it through our employers (large HTown hospitals).
Pfizer or Moderna? I've been told that there is reason to think the 2nd Moderna will hit harder than the 2nd Pfizer.
Well that’s the thing we don’t know how many unconfirmed cases there have been. I remember reading it was estimated to be 15% in November somewhere.
Given we know many people show no symptoms it’s a near certainty that the infection rate is more than 10%. After all you have to take a test to test positive. Anyone hear about vaccine distribution in Houston? I’m eager to get this show on the road.
What's there to hear about? You just call 500 numbers and drive those poor people crazy until you hopefully get one that has an appointment in the next 1-2 months. I gave my mom a few numbers for vaccination spots near her and she got a spot for the first week of February, I think. I'd suggest contacting your PCP first, too. I told my mom that, and she said they told her they'd contact her (my parents are in their 70's/80's). She was trying to get something sooner than February, but wasn't able to with the few numbers she tried.
Dude, that was formaldehyde. If I'd known you were going to try and resell it, I'd have gone with watered down grape kool aid.
The vaccine that @KingCheetah mailed me was actually just window cleaner, like Merv Griffin was known to inject in strangers.
I don't think we can say that. A lot of early studies suggested we were measuring only about 1 in 20 actual COVID-19 cases. We're doing more testing now, sure, but a lot of people get sniffles or absolutely zero symptoms and never get tested. Do you think people who aren't in politics or professional sports get random testing? Like a cook at a burger stand, or someone stocking our groceries? I don't think so. So we don't measure many of the asymptomatic cases. Also, when it raged through New York and New Jersey, tons of sick people just stayed home and never got tested. I think we just have no solid idea what % of our population has had the bug, but it's damned contagious.
