Is it just me or is Nelly just really horrific when he performs live? I thought his performance could have been much better, but he sounds terrible up there and is obviously helped by the studio. Compare that to Eminem, who sounds great either way, live or on tape.

I did think the Eminem performance was a little disappointing, and while having The Roots do it was a good idea, it didn't help the song. The beat was too slow and it seemed that all Em did was wave his hand incessantly...he didn't show the same fire and intensity that he usually does during his performances.

Fred Durst said something like "I hope we are all in agreeance that this war should be ended as quickly as possible."

What the hell is "agreeance"? That's not a word.

My goal in life is to steal Fred Durst's hat and burn it.

how could they diss my girls the dixie chicks and my boy eminem for album of the year. norah jones, ugghhh. did she win every friggin thing she was up for?? i mean i don't like her song but if people wanna like it and give it a few awards, ok. but album of the year. i haven't even heard another song by her.

i'm not sure who i wanted more, dixie chicks or eminem. i just recently started listening to the dixie chicks album after my initial listen through after buying it and i like it a whole lot more than i thought and can't put it away. it's got a little bit of everything. slow sad songs, slower popish songs, fast country songs, and then really fast songs. not that i've heard norah's album but why couldn't this win.

and eminem, biggest album of the year. all 5 songs i've heard high quality. biggest thing going. we've gotta get him an album of the year award out of the last 3 years of brilliance he's had.

apparently this was just norah jones year. there always seems to be someone every year that i don't like that wins everything.

I find Norah Jones refreshing in the sense that she's not a fat black woman. Don't misunderstand me. I like fat black women. I'm just saying that her look is not typical of the jazz lounge singer, and that has helped her appeal big time. I've listened to the whole CD many times around 6 months ago. There is a lot of good stuff in there, but "album of the year" stuff, I'm not so sure. Then again, it is the Grammys, for every time I hear that word, I think about the Simpsons episode where they make fun of how crappy the grammys are.

Oh, and they finally made a video for "Come away with me". Good. That song is better than the #1 track "Don't know why".

And I'm still waiting for more music videos from John Mayer. I've gradually changed my opinion of him. I still don't think he's great, but he's pretty good. There are better songs on his CD than "Body is a Wonderland", but since is was predetermined as one of the two "hits" on the CD by the label, and promoted as so, it is undeservingly getting more play time than his other worthy songs.

Finally, does anyone else think that Norah Jones singing resembles Natalie Merchant? And Michelle Branch's resembles Lisa Loeb? And Nellie reminds me of Dru Hill.

I'm just glad that Bruce, Coldplay, and the Flaming Lips won. By the way, does anybody have Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. I have been hesitant to buy CD's for over half a year except for when I got the U2 best of, just wanted to know if somebody hear could give me some insight.

    I haven't seen anyone mention Norah's "slip-up"...

Does anyone know who won best metal?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned n'Sync's acapella of "Stayin' Alive" by the Beegees. I thought that was pretty tight.

    I didn't watch. What was Norah's slip-up?

Anyone catch Avril Lavigne's reading of the nominations, when she said David BOWie, as in BOW-wow-wow. I don't care how young you are, if you claim to write your own music and actually consider yourself a musician, how can you not know David Bowie enough to at least pronounce his friggin' name right? That about sums up the Grammy's right there.

In my opinion, this is the biggest joke of an awards show that has ever been created. They usually take one "cutting edge" album to try and prove they're still cool, while the rest are either old, washed up artists who were once great but have run out of ideas, or bland artists that are the safest choices they can possible come up with. I mean, I don't think Norah Jones is bad, but I have a hard time calling trendy Starbuck's music the best album of the year.

The Academy Awards isn't perfect either, but it's ten times more open-minded than the Grammy's. At least they're willing to take risks and nominate films that try to do something different, even when they aren't the most commercially successful. The Grammy's could learn a thing or two from The Academy.

Oh, I also heard about the tribute to the Clash by Springsteen and Costello among others. They played "London Calling." That is something I wish I had seen.

...of course, the Clash have never been recognized by the Academy.

Yeah, I saw the Flaming Lips beat out Slash for best Rock Instrumental. :D They are my favorite band, so obviously I reccomend it.

I guess I have to give the Academy credit for nominating Clinic, Beck, and the Soundtrack of Our Lives for best Alternative Album. I would have given the award to any of those three over Coldplay, but they're not a bad band.

Based on the nominees, I think Bruce should have won album of the year. But the fact that Wilco wasn't nominated for anything just proves what a joke the Grammy's are.

we watched the grammys and I was pretty entertained. Mayer and Norah did well, so I was happy! If DMB had beat out No Doubt, it would have made the night even that much better! :)

Maybe it's because she's French-Canadien. Are you sure she didn't say "David Bowie, eh"?

It's funny - I read all the praise for Yankee Foxtrot Hotel and went out and bought it last fall. Since then, I've listened to it twice. While I admire the musical experimentation, the songs just seemed lame to me. And Tweedy's vocals? - most bar bands have better singers. To me, the album sounded like a country rock band trying to be Radiohead and failing due to a lack of musical ability (not talent, just ability).

I already watched the Rockets lose to Dallas on Friday, so I wasn't going to be so masochistic to endure the Grammies in the same weekend.

To the person who criticized Avril Lavigne for reading David "Bowie" (as in Bow-wow-wow)....maybe she was just nervous? It would stun me that she didn't know how to pronounce the guy's name.

But ignorance is out there. Oh yes. 8 years ago when Faith Hill remade "Piece of my Heart," I mentioned to someone I knew, a 24 year-old female, that Janis Joplin recorded the original version of the song.

    "Who?" she said.

"Janis Joplin," I repeated, thinking she hadn't heard.

Blank stare, shrug of the shoulders. She had never heard of Janis Joplin.

My friends were trying to hook me up with this girl, but that killed it right there.

Man, I regret missing this. From the grammy website, it seems like there were some damn good performances. Was the whole thing about Bono "person of the year" with diffirent artists doing U2 songs televised? Wow, Mary J Blige put some serious oomph into One. That song is so great since it can take on diffirent meanings every time it's sung. I saw a clip of Costello doing Kite, good song made even better with a legend singing it. What song did Bono and the Edge perform? If I was part of band and performed in that set, I would have done Bullet the Blue Sky. Teach Fred Durst how to really make a political statement.

Coldplay and the Boss doing London Calling must have been great. I wish I had listened to the Clash more often when I first started listening to music.
