Freedom is one of the 2024 DNC's main themes, a stark contrast to the agenda set by the Trump/Vance-led GOP. Make no mistake, they do have an agenda. Despite the noise of cruelty, name-calling, personal attacks, and senile complaints, their agenda is real, regressive, and dangerous.

This agenda threatens to roll back rights for women, minorities, mixed households, and workers. It aims to concentrate power in the executive branch to achieve these goals. While Trump himself is not capable of crafting the detailed 900-page roadmap, he eagerly embraces the power offered to him.

This power is largely pushed by extreme Christian nationalistic figures. Trump, despite attempts to distance himself from Project 2025, has not and will not be distancing himself from these individuals. They are a sure bet to be part of his 2nd administration. Selecting Vance, the foreword writer of Project 2025, sends a clear message.

The stakes are clear: a more restricted and divided America, or a push towards greater freedom for all.

Not saying the US is perfect.

Let's fix and tweak our problems, not have some utopian Leave To Beaver mindset or some Libertarian crap of dismissing humanity and simply manage the economics and eliminating all social programs.

It's frustrating that we have the best Healthcare tech, yet so many don't have access to it. Fixing that requires progress, not conservatism or libertarianism. The benefit of conservatives is keeping the liberals in check so they don't run wild. But all good concepts in society were born from progressives. Conservatives have invented nothing, in terms of contributing to social or governmental ideas. Conservatives are always the naysayers but get dragged into the next century kicking and screaming (meanwhile, they have no problem taking advantage of any advances).

I had a MAGA coworker that told me outright that he doesn't mind suffering as long as niggers and wetbacks hurt worse. Regardless of his pending divorce and eventually termination it was an eye opener.

You're obfuscating the key facts and points.

Fact - the military makes up 75%+ of the gov'ts workforce
Fact - the military is associated with the majority of the government's discretionary spending.

So why try to cut the stuff that adds up to drops in the bucket? You want to shrink gov't? Start with the military - otherwise it shows this isn't about the size of the gov't or the budget, it's really about something else.

She should not have said it without more concrete evidence.

But we all know Trump was trying to convince him to delay the cease fire. It's just so obvious. The dead giveaway was when Trump claimed he wanted the cease fire. About as weak attempt to cover your tracks as I have ever seen.

Meanwhile many in the GOP have attacked Tim Walz son for having mental challenges - a child no less. This is how far they have sunk - completely without any moral fiber

A lie is when you intentionally say something you know to be untrue to spread falsehood. You may think otherwise, but I personally don't think this was Woodruff's intention.

If I had to guess, I'd say she misread the report as saying more than it did and blurted it out during a live coverage. She's now in her late 70s and I believe semi-retired, but I think she's tried to keep to a journalistic standard during her career.

Anyway, she owned up to her mistake and issued an apology pretty quickly.

Like you said, that's just an average. If you're well to do or have a generous employer, then those numbers and rates rise significantly.

Where you live also matters. Despite being a libruhl hellscape, California is among the top 10 in ranked health care. The state healthcare system will even pay out for people who can't afford major surgeries or expensive drugs.

It makes sense with expensive healthcare costs that the top 10 are blue states while cheapskate red states like Texas are on the bottom half. Houston can boast a top cancer center like MD Anderson, which only great if you have access to it.

Inequality has been a big problem since the Great Financial Crisis. The reasons are numerous but it's not as simple as more government intervention. When everything is "free or unfettered", things mostly fit under the pareto principle. Government intervention in the name of egalitarianism is the process of fighting against that natural shift, but it's a process easily commandered with slogans and insider motivations over a bias towards repeatable and measurable data gathering.

It's a con fake libertarians use effectively in promoting their Small Government values or wedge attacks of "fairness" or Winners and Losers.

We don't live in an ideal world. The real world has entropy, different definitions of value/morality, and undefinable shades of grey.

Walls, both physical and ideological, have to be mended and repaired over time or it goes to ****.

I'm sure he ran home and applied for unemployment and Obamacare.

Remember the experiment where they put a marshmallow in front of a 5yo and tell them they can eat it? But if they wait 5 min when they return, they'll bring them another marshmallow if they don't eat the first one. They leave the kid in room with the single marshmallow on the table. Most 5yo kids can't resist and eat it. I think by 6-7, most kids don't eat it and enjoy two marshmallows later.

Your MAGA coworker would still eat that marshmallow straight away.

From what I saw 241 peeps died last year in Australia from animal inflicted injuries. If 241 died, I wonder how many more were treated with various anti venoms.

Last year 4 people died from wild animals in the USA.

I'm sure I would be fine but, I will always be thinking about it. Can't enjoy the horizon if I'm constantly staring at the ground.
It's not likely I would be bitten by a spider or attacked by a Cassowary. But it's also not out of the realm of possibility.

We have decided to go the baguette and croissant route. See you in gay Paris next May.

We’re seeing on display the last couple of days it’s not only the party that is about grievance and power but about callous and bizarre attacks. That mocking a child is somehow a legitimate political attack. It’s as though they learned nothing from losing so many races in the last few years that they should’ve won but continue to double down.

IMO you can run the government like a business
BUT you have to realize that the currentcy is not dollars . . .it's human quality of life
when the exchange rate is good . .. people give up a little to gain alot (democracy?)
When it is not good .. .they give up alot to gain a little (Fascism?)

The ultimate measure of a business is how much money they make
Government should be how happy do they make the people. . . how much do they improve the general public's baseline quality of life

However - unlike dollars. . .that is harder to quantify
