I could be wrong, but these are my thoughts on the subject. The Golf Hour isn’t going away anytime soon. I bet that the Golf Hour brings in more revenue, for 610, than any other hour. Why? Because your average golf fanatic has a higher income than the average person. Since they have a higher income, they are more than likely able to purchase the products that are advertised to them. Your average golfer is also older and more apt to have a stable job. Advertisers drool over these type demographics. 610 is probably salivating over the revenue that the show brings in. The problem that 610 is going to have, is that the average Golf Hour listener is not a reflection of their average listener. This means that the average listener is tuning in to another station for that particular hour. Unfortunately for 610, there is a new sports station in town. Listeners that tune away for that hour may find that they like 790 more, and may stick with that station permanently.
Wonderful. Not only do we get to hear an interview with the designer of the new course at Redstone this afternoon, we get to hear from Harmon and Epps, too. Seriously, you'd think we just got awarded the Super Bowl instead of a new freaking golf course opening in Houston.
The Golf Hour went away once before. I think you give too much credit to the audience. I don't think some avid golfer fortune 500 executive is going to take time out his/her busy schedule to listen to these guys swap stories for an hour.
610's best show is Matt and Adam, the problem with Marc and Rich is that they dont talk sports. when you are a host for a sports talk show, you need to talk sports. Rich is especially guilty of this. Sometimes I think that Rich doesnt even like sports anymore. I used to be a big fan of Rich and charlie, but now I switch during charlie's show and listen to 790. He is the best host in the city period. I am surprised that he has not gotten a national show. he gives informed and entertaining opinions. I switch back to 610 for matt and adam in the evenings.
I would have much rather heard more Rafael Palmero chatter. C'mon, the golf course is the new home of the Shell Houston Open. Reese Jones is an acclaimed course architect. You'll likely never hear him or another course designer on for another year. And from what I heard Harmon and Epps were only on for about 10 minutes. Right after that Vandy had Stromile on (I think, I had to get out of my car and missed it) so doesn't that balance it out? Variety is the spice of life. Just as long as the talk doesn't turn toward soccer and hockey I'm ok with it.
Could there be a more inappropriate time to have the golf hour on right now? UT just wins the National Championship and we have to listen to these jokers ramble on about golf. At one point one of the geriatrics had the nerve to say, enough of this football talk… let’s talk some golf. Granato should have slapped him in the face.
Yeah, that was a little over the top, Svpernaut. I mean, I could understand if it was someone else's ass, but your own??? Gross!
I'm kinda suprised by the idea of it. I mean... was Svpernaut sitting around the house one day wondering, "Ya know... I think that if I bent over far enough I could actually get my lips on my bunghole. Hmm... yeah, but what could I accomplish? Well, I guess I could kiss my own ass... yeah... if I had a fart coming I could suck it out... Hey - that's it!"
I borrowed (stole) the line from a buddy who is a DJ in Oklahoma... another classic of his is something along the lines of "she had the personality of a roof shingle."
Not too jump on the golf hour bandwagon...kinda boring, but there are sports fans out there who actually don't care about UT winning last night and have golf questions. The proof is that they called this morning and talked about golf.
I think the majority of people (such as myself) who are talking about how much the golf hour sucks mucho ass are referring to it in general, not just on days after a huge sports story.
Well, lemme tell ya.... I love golf. and I even love to watch golf on TV... ... but golf radio?!?!?! nah....
thank god they got rid of the commercial for southwest greens (or whatever) where they were heavy breathing on the mike like a prank caller. Greens of rubber, plastic and concrete!
So, how does this work? I don't have the schedules down pat, but a few times I've turned expecting John and Lance and got this golf thing. Pretty bland. What happens to Lance during this? The few times I've heard it, he's nowhere.
Thursdays from 9-10 a.m. - otherwise known as the time 90% of 610's listeners go to another station. Lance is a smart man, that's why he doesn't subject himself to that crap. I suspect Granato is just drunk.
