I like the golf hour, I actually play golf. I'm guessing most of you who don't like the golf hour don't play golf & don't have any respect for the game, especially if you think golf is for getting drunk and hanging out with your buddies. There is way more to the game of golf than that.
The Golf hour belongs on a weekend show. As others have already said it's unlistenable. An hour discussing the comets would be more entertaining.
Wow, this sounds like Caddyshack gone wrong... 610 should disclose this at the start & finish of every "Golf Hour" then. Man... I had no idea about Redstone's link to those other courses... I just popped them into my post b/c those are the only freaking courses ever mentioned on that show. That's fine that Redstone is bankrolling 610 for that hour, but make sure you tell that to everyone so that they understand what's going on. You know when Mark Klein or Hoops Sporting Equipment has an ad on 610 right? Well, just let us know that Redstone has bought an hour of adspace every Thursday morning, and that this is the reason why their courses and services receive such glowing reviews. If this is true, shame on 610 - it's not even a "Golf" hour...
Totally agree. I'd rank the shows 1. Matt & Adam, 2. Lance & John, and a distant 3. Marc & Rich. Matt & Adam get into some nice debates that make their entertaining to listen to. Lot's of Rocket talk and high on the sarcasm metter which I enjoy. Lance & John are good in the morning. Pretty light hearted radio, and they work well together. Marc & Rich need to get a clue. How about watching a some sportscenter in the morning to catch up with what's going on or going online to do a little sports research. It seems that they are getting all of their sports information from the callers.
I loved it yesterday when Marc kept going on after the magnificent seven how he technically had the wrong answer for the moon question and Dave Harbison finally goes, "Can we move on?". He sounded annoyed.
Both Houston stations leave a lot to be desired, IMO. The only show that isn't routinely annoying is Palilo's. Moving Sportsbeat to 790 was a huge mistake - Carl Dukes is intolerable.
Harbison solo is better than any combination of Marc/Rich Marc/Dave or Rich/Dave and since Palilo left and Wexler joined Matt, the night show has become 10x better than the afternoon.
Does anyone else chuckle every time you hear Matt Jackson's extremely enthusiastic, "Mmm, mmm, mmm, I'm lovin' it" on the McDonald's commercial?
I hope Matt gets to do another KFC promotion. OMG, that was the funniest thing ever. Sounded like Matt needed to smoke a cigarette after eating KFC wings. I totally agree with all the Marc/Rich bashing. That show is terrible. Marc doesn't even know about the Texans and he works there! Yesterday, someone asked about Gary Walker, he had no clue about his condition. If Chance and Harbison came on at 2, that would be an improvement. Actually, a test signal from 2-6 would be better than what they have now.
I agree about the evening show. It's the best thing 610 has going for it in terms of local talent. It's entirely too obvious that Pallilo absolutely CARRIED Rich Lord when they worked together. And Vanderbeek is a tool who can somehow turn ANY conversation back to Texans talk -- because that's all he knows. I mean, God forbid the Rockets are on the eve of, oh, I don't know, game 6 of the finals next year -- Vanderbeek will probably inundate us with what Gary Walker's workout schedule is like as he's 'getting ready for Texas camp which opens up next month'....or some crap like that. Granato strikes me as a 45 year old frat-boy wannabe. He subsists off of inside jokes and is kinda like the local radio version of a Jimmy Fallon in that he has his moments but doesn't really serve a purpose. If Lance isn't there to balance him out somewhat, he's completely un-listenable. I actually like Harbison. The guy seems professional, knowledgable, and can add some diversity to the topics discussed.
Personally, i find all of SportsRadio 610's programming highly entertaining. The golf hour is certainly a cash grab but that being said the two best, most knowledgable names in golf are here on 610. And how can we move them to the weekend when tom, gulp, tynan are there? it's an hour a week and it's the best golf hour on the radio in Houston or any other city. Most golf hours are boring and stupid. At least you get some good stories on ours. If you MUST turn the dial, I understand. But come back at 10 because the 10 o'clock hour of the morning show is money.
Completely agree. I'd be all kinds of happy if Matt "the lurker" J and Adam replaced the droids in the afternoon so I could quit listening to Charlie. 790 is the devil, but Marc and Rich give me no choice. I'd rather listen to a Cher album in reverse for hours than listen to their chit chat. Booooring.
Matt seriously, you're "This day in sports" and the ba da ba da da!! that follows it really gets to me after the 20th time I hear it each day. I beg you to have them not run it so damn much! Oh, but by the way....I think you and Adam have the best show on the station, you guys are great together. Keep it up!
I love the Matt & Adam show, but more of Matt and less of Adam would be nice. I called in once before the NBA playoffs and Adam was acting like Seattle was going to get whipped by the Sac Kings??? I called in and argued with him a little bit, explaining to him that they had so much firepower from 3 point land and the two headed rebounding monster and he wouldn't listen. Sure enough Seattle whipped the kings and gave the spurs a hell of a challenge. I never had a chance to call back and rub it in. Put me on the air with Matt! lol
Awesome Chance - just do us all a favor then, and announce prior to every "Golf Hour" that "This program has been bought & paid for by Redstone Corp. Dick & Charlie are employees of Redstone, and while John Granato sounds like one, he's merely shilling for them as our w**** for Redstone's money." This is akin to the Astros sponsoring a "Baseball Hour" during which Tal Smith & Uncle Drayton appear to shill Astros merchandise, hype up their players, and extoll the virtues of MM Park - all the while disallowing any talk of non-Astro things or critical commentary on their management practices and baseball moves. All the while the sports personality would sit and laugh at every story & joke they told, and cream himself talking about how great his guests & their facilities/services are. Wait a minute, John "Tim Redding has Great Stuff" Granato already does blindingly w**** himself out to the Astros, so it wouldn't make much of a difference. Shill on for Redstone, 610, shill on and keep telling us it's about "golf."
