Yeah not only that, talented players who come here tend to under-perform while players who leave tend to over achieve. Another trend reminiscent of the Knicks piss poor management (including coaching).

    Great shot.

Rudy Gay is a great talent. Athletic. He will be good.

My question is where was he when the Spurs erased a 23 point defecit? Say what you will but that last play was not more than good timing and a great shot.

That's not knocking his talent or defending the Battier trade, I'm not even saying that it was his sole responsibility to stop the Spurs when they were coming back, but I'm just saying please look at that shot in context. That's all.

Its bad that we lost the 5th pick but we should not blame them for not tanking. Afterall, they ARE humans and they have pride, too. Tanking would demoralize the team and the coach's credibility will drop in the players' minds.

The Rockets got Battier because they wanted to "win now" last year. Looks like Rudy Gay is winning games by himself now. Battier was scared as hell when he got the ball during the final possession when the Rockets had a chance to tie it. He didn't even want to dribble and couldn't wait to pass it. On the other hand, Gay embraced the pressure during crunch time and shot a cold blooded 3 in Tim Duncan's eye to win the game.

Uh, we were going to draft Roy, but trades among the other teams prevented us from picking him (because he was gone before our pick).

Rudy Gay is Rashard Lewis part 2. It's moves like these that make me believe that Pro sports teams GM's have no more clue about what they are doing then the average fan.

Hindsight is 20/20. Looking back i still would have done the gay for battier deal (though i think giving swift away was excessive). Battier was invited to join team USA and even started, so you knew he did something very well, while gay reminded me too much of eddie griffin. My dumbass was probably the first one to start a trade 3 drafts picks for eddie griffin thread back in the day and I thought we would get burned again with rudy. Both had amazing potential, but also had similar attitudes problems, eddie reminded me of tim duncan in that he NEVER showed emotion on the court, and rudy was probably the only elite basketball player i have ever seen yawn multiple times. Both start off the year ranked number #1 on draft board, and both fell down to basically the same position when teams did more scouting. And honestly you can't say he would playing nearly as well with the rockets. Had he not been traded he may not have had the fire, and with Jeff van gundy as our coach last year it would be unlikely that he would have developed so fast. And on top of that memphis does not have yao or tmac so gay would not have the shots attempts with us either.

The Rockets have blown 20+ point leads to the Spurs only to lose before as well. Poor argument.

Uh...you do understand that VG played Juwan Howard and David Wesley big minutes in a meaningless win vs DEN that if lost would have meant a 3-way tie with BOS and MINN for picks 5-6-7...

    Maybe...maybe no?

Being the second year player he is.

On our team, yah know with "leaders" he wouldn't have to worry about that happenning.

And I'm not patronizing you, I understand, I'm just saying, it's the guy's second year in the nba.....second. And he came to the league after his soph season in college.

I find it so hilarious when people who defend this awful trade try to correlate Rudy Gay with Eddie Griffin. It's like they say to those that don't agree with them something along these lines - "Did you see what Rudy Gay just did?? He yawned!! He has no emotion just like Eddie Griffin and we all remember how we got burned by him!" BFD - the dude can still play. Who gives a rats ass if he doesn't do a scream after every time he dunks or wags his finger after making a block or do something else that is idiotic after making a shot. There's more to basketball than acting like a damn fool.

It is also interesting to me how any player that is athletic like a Gay, Azbuike, or even a Keith Bogans never seems to work out here but flourishes somewhere else. And yet one of our major weaknesses is lack of athletic ability among our players (outside of one of our injury prone superstars). I keep hoping with Adelman now as our coach that will change, but I guess it will take time. :(

Don't consider myself an "idiot," but I'm still right here. I never thought Battier would be a 3rd scorer, but I did see him as a super role player, and that was true last year.

I underestimated Gay and could not forsee the future -- big deal. I also think people *over*estimate (time and time again) the stats of a good player on a horrid team. Look at Purvis Short's Golden State stats sometime, and then look at his Rox stats. (Or pick you example from thousands of similar cases.)

But yeah, looks like a really stupid trade now.
