Also, if I were going to compare Rudy to anybody in the league, it would be a young Kobe. Gay is not even close to being even an undersized 4. He is not shawn marion. He has the type of game that when he wants to get to the basket and score he does it with acrobatic plays and with control. He can beat you from anywhere on the floor. In fact, the only real reason that he is not averaging 25 plus a game is because he gets foul prone and that gets him out of rhythm.
Let's not jump off the deep end. Rudy Gay's skillset and personality don't approach Kobe's. Athletically you can try to make a comparison but that's about it. I HAVE watched him play and his handles, mid-range game and acrobats around the basket don't belong on the same planet with Kobe.
The Battier trade sucked but let's be serious here. Kobe Bryant entered the league with one of the most refined skillsets in history.
I am starting to think that Houston is right behind New York as one of the worst organizations. The list of stupid drafts, trades, and contracts is now so long that it is hard to keep up with them. Where the team is today is a direct result of many, many poor decisions. I hope Les sells the team and we start over. The great "CD" era wasn't so great. He was a fine coach, but as a GM, not so hot. I would like to move on too, but since the Rockets have painted themselves into a corner, a bit hard to do.
Sorry for the double post, but I have to agree with this. The poor decisions are too numerous to list, but I would list one in addition to the Rudy Gay trade: Letting Kelenna Azubuike go last year. JVG said they didn't have a roster spot for him, but he's filled the role of Jason Richardson nicely in G-State. You're telling me that they couldn't make room for that guy on the team? Those who are apologists for the Rockets' poor decisions will say that he didn't fit well in Houston, but it seems like that's the blanket excuse given all the time. Not to mention Azubuike was quite athletic, which seems to be something the Rockets dread.
I think you are speaking of killer instinct here. Rudy has that. It is under development but he has it. There has been at least 3 games this year were rudy has stepped up with an unbelievable play with time running out. Against NO he takes the ball mid-air coming off the glass and with one hand he tips the ball in. Another game we need a 3 to tie, and he has the ball with a game shadowing him on the 3 point line. He makes a quick move to his left, elevates and drains the 3. The guy has been as money as you can get at the end of the game. The problem is that the defense has let the grizzlies down time and again. If there is any time left on the clock for a game winner teams have been able to hit them. You just have to really watch gay in these games to know this. I'm sorry if you don't see it yet, soon enough everybody will. Gay IS the real deal.
I still think not tanking those last few games, and missing out on the 5th pick which would have been used to draft brandon roy was the bigger loss than missing out on rudy gay. Roy could have filled in for us at point guard and been a huge upgrade over alstons. And his size would have been perfect against deron williams in the playoffs. Plus we never had any intention of keeping gay. Our first choice was always roy, and he could have been there in our laps had we done what ALL the other lottery teams were doing.
I totally agree. The "CD" era sucks. oh, think about Eddy Griffen who killed himself sometime ago. Well, Rox can draft someone like this using 3 first round picks, tells you something.
Hmm.. so basically, all things considered, Houston managed to play out the WORST possible scenario. Oh except drafting Thabo Sefolosha. That would have been the only worse possible scenario.. Good job Management! Atleast you avoided the WORST possible scenario.. *clap clap*
Totally agree. And you can't blame JVG for this as he is the coach who supposes to win. It falls to the GM, CD, who should tell JVG to play the rookies and tank. But CD refused to do that.
