and the worst part is battier probably has never scored more than 15 pts since draft day. Never even sniffed 20pts.

But... but ..... but he's a consummate professional and does all the intangible things that help a team win.

I'm sorry...but is it politically incorrect to start a thread titled "The Gay Watch"? :)

Exactly, wishing we had Gay is pointless, he was never going to be a Rocket even if we kept the pick.

you want to mess with facts then so be it...it doesnt change them. morey wanted battier. he never was going to draft gay. it was between brewer and seflosha. when it came down to keeping the pick (seflosha was the pick edging out brewer), morey pushed for battier. jvg and lindsey also thought battier would be better for the team than seflosha. gay was not even in the discussion because morey's math told him that gay would not be an effective nba player.

    Ronnie Brewer??

We need some better scouts... The discussion of Battier aside, who the hell suggested THABO? when you're looking at Rudy Gay and Ronnie Brewer??

Which reflects even worse on our organization's front office/decision-making.

Let's move on from this topic. From the Rockets' point of view it was not Rudy Gay or Shane Battier; it was the sixth pick or a solid veteran. They chose Battier. Ultimately it may not have been the right decision, but at the time they thought it would help to push the team over the topic. Decisions like this happen all the time in the league. We don't have to keep track of every one of Rudy's big games (I'm sure there will be plenty to come considering he's already the No.2 option on the team). We say that maybe the Rockets made a mistake and we move on.

Well said. The more me dwell on the situation the more it's going to suck. You win some and you lose some. Next topic.

I don't really care who WOULD've been picked is it Gay or not, but I just fell really bad that we COULD have a really good player and maybe a future superstar instead of a overated defensive player. This is Richard Jefferson Part.II and I'm pissed.

I'm still dumbfounded how someone in the front office thought Thabo Seflosha was a better option with Brewer and Gay still on the board.

Yeah JVG and Lindsey were right in that Battier was a better option than Thabo, that's true. I mean, Thank God! I'd rather have Battier 10x out of 10 than Thabo! But it doesn't change the fact that the Rocket's front office are terrible at evaluating talent. Probably one of the worst in the league.

Everybody points to the Knicks but atleast they drafted David Lee. Who have the Rockets drafted.. Luther Head?

Isiah Thomas is actually very good at evaluating/drafting talent. It's just that he sucks at everything else.

Most of us that are paying attention know what the facts are. The $Ball logic was this...

    Battier > Brewer > Sefalosha > RGay

Even in retrospect, you and numerous others refuse to see how ridiculous that was.

Once upon a time, the Rockets drafted Rodney McCray over Clyde Drexler. The logic then was the same as your attributing to Morey et al now. McCray was viewed as a better "fit" and Drexler wasn't viewed as a good NBA prospect. The fact that Drexler wasn't "considered" by Rockets management doesn't absolve a single one of them from being short-sighted.

Whats sad is that was the happiest I was as a Rockets fan since early 2005, when we were up 2-0 on the Mavs.

What GATER said. This trade is ALWAYS going to be talked about, whether you like it or not, because it illustrates how inept our front office management is.

Then Morey pushed for an idiotic move. Battier is not good enough to get a top 8 pick back...period....

You do realize that no matter how many times we say this, the posters on this board just gloss right over it, and pretend like it was a straight-up Gay + Swift for Battier trade. They don't care that the facts directly say that we would have gotten Sefolosha, nor do they care that Swift played here already, and sucked big fat donkey balls. It makes no difference to them.

So the Rockets drafting Thabo over Gay completely relieves any criticism fans have over Rockets management? You understand how idiotic that sounds to excuse management for f-ucking it up twice over and ignoring Gay completely? I mean do you? I think others gloss over it because its stupid to defend the trade by saying we'd draft Thabo anyways. It's just dumb.

Then it would have been a Sefolosha versus Rudy Gay thread. Our front office stinks. They haven't made a good move (besides drafting Cat) since trading for Drexler. Thats ten years worth of dumb moves.
