Doesn't thinking about the future just blow your ****ing mind sometimes? I never took sci-fi stuff seriously until I realized that a lot of it is actually plausible. Now it's like crack and I can't stop thinking about what things will be like. I know no prediction is certain, but I love this site: http://www.futuretimeline.net/ some interesting stuff to me (from linked site): 2014 - Most telephone calls are made via the Internet 2015-2019 - Tigers are going extinct 2016 - Holographic versatile disc (HVD) supersedes Blu-ray; A pill to prevent sunburn 2019 - Acute spinal injuries are fully treatable; Bionic eyes are commercially available 2020 - Texting by thinking; Sweden becomes the first oil-free country 2021 - Mind reading technology is being deployed for security purposes 2022 - Deafness is fully curable 2024 - Gay marriage is legal in every US state 2028 - Amputees can regrow lost limbs 2030 - AIDS, cancer and a number of other diseases are becoming curable 2031 - Married couples are a minority; Chocolate has become a rare luxury 2035 - Self-driving vehicles are widespread; Holographic recreations of dead people 2036 - Alzheimer’s disease is fully curable; Bionic eyes surpassing human vision are available to private wealthy individuals 2040 - Virtual telepathy is dominating personal communications; Tobacco has been largely eradicated 2044 - The last veterans of WW2 are passing away 2049 - Robots are a common feature of homes and workplaces 2056 - Fully synthetic humans are becoming technically feasible 2059 - The end of the oil age; Mars has a permanent human presence by now 2065 - Longevity treatments that can halt aging; Invisibility suits are in military use 2072 - Picotechnology is becoming practical 2080 - Some humans are more non-biological than biological; Construction of a transatlantic tunnel 2084 - Androids are entering law enforcement 2090 - Religion is fading from European culture 2092 - West Antarctica is among the fastest growing areas in the world 2095 - Many of the world's languages are no longer in use 2100 - Nomadic floating cities are roaming the oceans 2120 - Mind uploading enters mainstream society; The International Space Elevator is operational 2150 -Androids physically indistinguishable from real humans 2160 - The world's first bicentenarians (some people from 1960 still alive??) 2220 - Mind uploading is available to a multitude of platforms 2240 - Christianity is fading from American culture 2280 - Microbial life is confirmed on an exoplanet 2500 - Mars has been terraformed 3000 - Purely biological humans are typically 7ft tall now, with lifespans of 120+ 3100 - Humanity is becoming a Type 2 civilisation on the Kardashev scale 3500 - Construction of the Solar Ring has been completed 4000 - Computer science is reaching its ultimate potential The unknown is so exciting!!!! I wonder which Clutchfans will make it to 2120 so they can permanently upload their mind and post in the hangout for ETERNITY!
2044 - The last veterans of WW2 are passing away Ehem, these guys would have to be 120 or somethin then, if you think that they were in War with 18.
The only thing I really disagree with on the list is the Mars stuff. I don't think we'll have enough money within 30-50 years to be able to do that. To think that some of us alive today (and this is a very real possibility) will be able to live to over 200! That is crazy. There's also a significant liberal bias to this list - gay marriage, end of religion. I wonder if that's a symptom of the author of the list, or if progressive policies are inevitable because they are, you know, progressive.
Pretty awesome. I want me some bionic eyes. The medicine advances are awesome. I take a more dystopian view of the future based on recent events and draconian changes in law in the US and Europe. There were a lot of underage enlistees (they lied about their age). Entirely feasible with advances in medicine.

Never mind. I found the answer: Drought, soil depletion and diminishing harvests in Africa – where two-thirds of the world's cocoa is produced – have led to soaring prices. Cocoa is also competing for agricultural space with other commodities like palm oil, which is increasingly in demand for biofuels. Poor pay and working conditions have also been a factor. Many young farmers are now abandoning their lands and heading to the cities, in search of better and more highly-paid jobs.*
This doesn't make sense. If people are living to 200 in 2160, why would the average life span only be 120 in 3000? (Man, I hope I get to live to 2160!)
You do understand it'll be like this right.... Spoiler <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/846/405nl63.jpg/'><img src='http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/795/405nl63.jpg' border='0'/></a>
