Members of Congress on both sides make stupid remarks. Their voters will decide if the words were worth electing someone else.

Not that long ago it was viewed as dead in the water...

So no one is concerned that a long-time member of the US congress indicated an attempt to nationalize US oil if they intended to drill on the continent? Unbelievable.

I get that Maxine Waters is not the Speaker of the House, but she is a 10-term congresswoman. If you tolerate that kind of remark from a long-standing member of congress, what else will you tolerate and from whom?

Oh please, Republican congressmen and Senators say dumb stuff like that all the time.

I could list dozens of dumb Michelle Bachman quotes and "call" Republicans out.

It's not even about dumb things said by some legislator.

It's about some people actually believing something like nationalizing oil is gonna happen-- or that nationalization is "The Future of Industry in Liberal America"-- because Maxine friggin Waters said so.

It's about some people thinking Barack Obama is the Black Maxine Waters the same way Jordan Hill is the Black Chris Bosh.

There's dumb and there's DUMB. At least Maxine Waters realized the magnitude of her gaffe even if you guys want to just shrug it off.

You obviously don't understand the purpose of a headline. I don't for a minute believe it is going to happen, but MW showed her true colors. Is she a lone wack-job? She's got some 10 terms behind her; look how well California is doing...

...by the Faux "News" noise machine. Then, Obama got up and used the bully pulpit to get something done even though one side was utterly and completely intransigent. The process took a year, if that is "ramming it through," then the ramming was done by a snail. A slow one.

I guess I am just the "no one" who just a few posts ago said her comment was stupid. It was nearly as inane as the Republicans saying they wanted a "clean sheet of paper" after a year long process.

She is a ten term Congresswoman, the only people who have to be able to tolerate her remark are the voters in her district. They will decide if she is preferable to the other candidates that run and she will answer for her comments.

What are the Democrats supposed to do? Run her out on a rail for making a stupid remark?

Tom DeLay was in the GOP leadership for years after being indicted for campaign finance violations in Texas.

How is one stupid remark something that must be shunned when being indicted by a grand jury doesn't disqualify someone from being in a leadership position? What more do you want other than someone to admit that she said something stupid?

If everyone in Washington who ever said something stupid were fired, Ron Paul would think he had reached nirvana.

So its admit just a gaffe and she realized it herself. Nothing to criticize her about.

Unless you just want to score political points here in the BBS after the historic healthcare reform bill.

It's not like she realized that she had asked for mayo instead of mustard; it wasn't that kind of gaffe. She accidentally showed some political stripes which she has tried to keep hidden.

She's a US Congresswoman, so what she does does affect all of us. She's only supposed to represent his district in voting considerations.

Time will tell. It's natural for there to be a bounce upwards in popularity but where will it level out after all the details are widely known and the thing actually starts to perform?

As I've said before, I have a daughter shut out of private health insurance due to congenital issues. She has to rely upon finding and keeping group healthcare benefits. How many young people are not involved in a real career? She has a job as a residential counselor at a state-run school, but it's not really her ambition.

ding ding ding, we have a winner. like i said, pgabs is too nice. giddyup thinks he's getting one over on the backslapping cadre of liberals here since we're not jumping over one another to condemn a dumb comment...we've all seen his act dozens of times during the many years of this bbs.

by the way, no person in their right mind would ever believe the lie that giddyup voted for obama. his idiotic comment about ramming this bill down the throat of americans is proof enough of that. not to mention his constant defense of racists.

giddyup, why haven't you taken the time to answer my questions? you're demanding us as liberals to damn a woman for stupid comments made over a year ago, why don't you explain to us why the gaffe has you so scared? a congress passes legislation so you have to dig up a stupid quote made by a liberal black woman to try and prove that the hammer and sickle are about to appear on our flag? can you also provide other proof of maxine waters political stripes she has tried to keep hidden? in her 20 years as a congresswoman, surely there is more than one gaffe showing her true feelings on the nationalization of private corporations. i'm going to the park with some friends, so please think on that while i'm gone.

Methinks that now this thread will enter phase 2 of "the giddyup posting method" wherein he whines about how unfair everyone is to him.

I did vote for Obama; you are a fool, I guess. Wish there were a way to make a bet and prove the event. How about this: I swear on my Mother's grave? Turkey.

This bill has not been popular among Americans. It is a fearful step they've made. Naturally there is a bounce up in receptivity; there almost always is. Obama himself called the stronger version of the bill from almost a year ago a "starter house."

This "dumb comment" was made during a hearing on the floor of the US Congress in a retaliatory comment made to the president of Shell Oil. I demand no response from anybody; yes, I expect it and by virtue of not getting it I have some ideas confirmed about political leanings of some posters here.

What, me scared? Love the way you want to trivialize my concern over a blatant fact caught on tape-- not a mere opinion. That's very upstanding of you. I'll probably wet my bed due to Maxine Waters nightmares from this day forward...

Girls and I are headed to the park in an hour or so to meet some friends. Spring Break here. Beautiful weather. Go Socialism!!

Explain the long awkward pause and those sitting next to her laughing up their sleeve.

do you believe the nationalization of corporations is imminent? do you believe maxine waters comments indicate that the current administration and congress are going to act to nationalize oil companies or any other private corporations?

it's awesome. this poster will take one gaffe from a black congresswoman and turn it into something all liberals on this board must denounce, but show him a history of a white man making racist comments and he'll defend him til he's blue in the face.

and he voted for obama. bwahahahaha.
