So they want to eliminate the deficit while cutting taxes and spending more on defense/borders? Outstanding.

So they are opposed to tougher immigration controls, additional enforcement of those laws, and securing the borders?

I want to thank you for sincerely trying to answer. But there is nothing specific in what you said. I've heard politicians and movements who want crime reduced, drugs off our streets, bloated government reduced, blah blah. What I'm looking for is not generalized goals, but specific proposals to get us there.

Nobody has stepped up to the plate. That speaks volumes.

I was trying to represent a movement, if you want a specific, I will step up to the plate......Balanced Budget Amendment. In Texas, the state cannot spend more that it takes in, period. This would work at the national level. Of course there would be a political bloodletting on where to spend and what to cut, BUT it would stop the government from spending like drunken sailors as they are now. This "would get us there," because at the end of the day, every federal budget would have to be balanced. It is the way you and I live. Well, at least me. ;)

So you approve of the Democrats pay as you go proposal. It is something Republicans(in general) opposed the measure, including those who suck at the teat of the tea party.

Luckily the Democrats passed the measure, which something the GOP never did when in control of congress.

So again it seems the fiscal irresponsibility concern is greater now even though there is more fiscal restraint than before.

Tell me HOW you would balance the budget. What programs should be eliminated, what taxes should be raised and how much. I understand the concepts espoused by tea partiers. Let's get beyond concepts and debate specific hard decisions.

Right and their perceptions are devoid of facts. This is proven by their love of Reagan. They saw him crack down on welfare, unions, etc. so they love him, but if they turned off Rush and did some research they would see the failure of his economic policy. Clinton had his faults, but he did increase the tax rates a hair and turned around the debt/GDP rocketship that was heading towards the moon under the trickledown/supplyside/voodoo of Reagan.

If anything W completed the Reagan Revolution, Same policies cut taxes for the rich, spend on the military and blame welfare and SS.

    Okay A_3PO! Here's one!
    ...

Cut the military budget in half! $260 Billion A YEAR would fund a lot of Obamacare and help balance the budget!

On a serious note, defense spending is one area I want tea partiers to go on record about. If they are serious about balancing the budget and won't propose major defense cuts, they may as well just shut up and go home (IMO). Based on the deafening silence so far, the last thing they want to do is be specific.

As I said; the last dying primal scream.

We know one of the Tea Party's issues is repealing the 14th Amendment. Now it seems the GOP establishment is getting behind the idea

    via TPM --

    Birtherism Writ Large

TPM Reader RW on birthright citizenship ...

In some sense, birthright citizenship is birtherism writ large--Obama is the son of a non-American born on American soil. It draws attention to Obama's alleged "foreign" origins. It isn't a mere stalking horse--in other countries, including, until recently Germany, the child of a male citizen and a female non-citizen was a citizen but the child of a female citizen and a male non-citizen was not a citizen. Although equal protection would likely prohibit such an interpretation here, attitudes like this are installed deep in some human psyches.

But more important it brings up the question upon which all of this madness, birtherism and the like turns. Will America forever be a white country? For any demographer, this question has answered itself for many years. But the very existence of Barack Obama has startled a significant part of the population into realizing what the rest of the world has known for some time--that the day fast approaches when America will no longer be majority white--not just in population, but in governance and culture. It is only through this prism that the the new political hysterics can be understood.

Solid, I really would like to know what medical care program is free but not offered to people with legal status. And if it is offered to legals, why aren't they just going for the free one that illegals are getting. Thanks.

RJ, this article clearly states that it may not be discernable just how big the shadow economy is. A shadow economy is a very basic economic concept that everyone of us has engaged in at some point in our lives. Does the illegal population have a disproportianate contribution to the shadow economy? Yes, I've seen it with my own eyes. I have family that pulls this crap, this is very real. There are a plethora of ways around federal income taxes and there are even a few more to get money back from the government. Because of the very fact that illegal immigrants are low wage earners, they are systematically eligible for a refund, using a illegal SS# or not. If you're here illegally as it is, are you going to pass up the opportunity for a massive refund? The article concluded that illegal immigrants may have a null effect on the economy as a whole. However, understand that this article did not explain the burden on local economies. The question is how is Arizona being affected by illegal immigration, not what is the macroeconomic effect of illegal immigration on the USA. And going back to my point, illegals don't pay federal income taxes. They may pay into SS and Medicare, and yes, the illegals will not collect on that, period. That is well understood, but, the burden on the local governments to provide social services is easily offset by those states that do not have a significant illegal population. My question to you is, what side are you on? Do you think illegal immigrants are ok?

I got news for Franchise, if you think that a fake SS is going to stop an illegal from claiming a refund, you clearly believe that the border between the US and Mexico has been baptized and honored by everyone south of it. This happens all the time, the fact that the federal government has not cracked down on it is not surprising as there is an economic benefit to be had. The real costs of illegal immigration are put on the states.

I think you're right Franchise, I don't like the message. If the majority of these upstanding illegals don't file income tax returns, then god bless them. They truly followed the letter of the law and said, hey, I'm illegally in this country so I think I should just not file income taxes, because I would like to avoid detection........... I'd like to leave my profession and family, roots out of this, but it just so happens that my patriotism has culminated into such a dynamic that I now stand against the very people whom I'm so closely related to and used to serve. Let's put it like this, whatever these government studies have been feeding you, is not a true reflection of what is actually happpening. So yes, I don't like the message, I think the message is BS. I think that people are so in love with the notion of the federal landscape and this puppet, a marxist lefty whack job, mickey mouse, amateur, unpatriotic, muslim, and a disgrace of a president in Barack Hussein Obama that you've forgotten who is hurt by the waves of illegal immigration, the STATES!

God forbid that we can put some sort of control over our deficit while allocating resources to our defense budget, I mean that just sounds so right wing extremist, I think we need to inform the feds on this radical thought process......
