Barton Creek (green belt) regularly dries up for years at a time -- enjoy it while it lasts.

I knew it dried up seasonally, but I didn't know it stayed dry for extended periods like that. I just moved down south this summer, and the creek was amazing after all that rain we had. I guess I'm spoiled. :(

There will always be rock climbing, though! (waiting for an erosion thread to pop up)

KC is just givin' you a hard time. We've had stretches of as much as a couple of years when things dried up pretty good, but the Bird Lake hike and bike area, and the other main green areas really are more seasonal than anything. I've lived here for 27 years now, and we've had several summers like the one we just had. Green, rain frequently, the lakes getting full. But like he said, enjoy it, because it's not normal.

Heck, when we moved here in 1980, it snowed at least 5 times the first 3 years we were here. We honestly thought leaving Houston to move to Austin was a giant change in climate. It is, but not that giant! One thing to remember about Austin... the weather can, and will, do some very freaky things. Count on it.

Renounce your Texas citizenship and move back to yankeeland post-haste.

On topic: non-native grasses and plants suck. But hey, I've got a greeeeeeeeeeeen carpetgrass yard and a golf course in the middle of the desert, so #*% the rest of you.

Did I miss something? This just from DaDakota's phonetic spelling of the river?

As for native grasses Buck, I'm with you. Our HOA won't permit a lawn of natives (and also severe limitations on solar power due to aesthetics). I've been thinking about asking the city to outlaw such restrictions on the native plants.

I don't mind the grass restriction, but I too would like some Solar panels and maybe a few small wind generators on my garage !

And I will be crossing the Pedernales river today on the way to our lakehouse on Lake LBJ.

Just screwing with him. I suppose writing it like you say it is a bit better than saying it like you write it.

Great idea on the HOA's, btw. I'm assuming a rainwater collection tank is out of the question too. ;)
