yea yao is still the worst officiated player in the league. at least the refs have agreed to ref him better though.
I agree that he's being officiated much better in general this year, but I still contend that this particular game was poorly officiated. I feel like the Bobcats in general tried to make it a physical game to make up for the disparity in skill, but the number of fouls called did not reflect it at all. As for the offensive foul at the end of the game, they didn't show any replays in Houston but apparently it was valid, but the important point is that it wouldn't have made any difference since Wallace missed the shot badly and we'd have gotten the rebound and just run the last 3 seconds off the clock. I was only afraid that they were going to call a phantom foul on McGrady since sometimes when people fly into the lane they'll get errant whistles coming their way for the simple fact that the ref was frazzled into the call. But I guess they were better than that. Bad but not Donaghy Bad .
I think Yao is being treated much more fairly so far this season. There are many more cases where a guy blatantly jumps at Yao, and there is no foul call. Previous seasons were a joke. I've always hated guards that would go out of their way to jump into a defender to draw a foul....John Stockton did it all the time.
amazing how much better a guy looks when he gets a little respect. Now it's those midgets that look stupid crashing into the great wall. Of course, it should have always been that way. If you want to collide into a monster big man on purpose, it should be your loss.
It's the gift and the curse with Yao's size, but i think the whistles are more in Yao's favor this season than in years past. I think it's really quite impossable for the refs to make the correct call with yao 100% of the time, due to the fact that the guards know that if they do force the contact with yao at the correct angle, his height alone is gonna alter the refs view of the call.
Not to be rude, but dont complain if you watch the game and analyze just how they are officiating yao compared to other seasons, he is getting the super star calls. Calls have a way of evening out, look at okafor. so this is a one star thread. to elaborate, they're not calling fouls on yao for just standing straight up like they did in years past. sure they call it sometimes, but before they would call it every single time
have to agree with this. Yao's been getting a lot more non calls this year. Pretty surprising actually, but in a good way. Still baffling though. He might knock someone down like Mo Williams and not get called for a foul, but then when he jus stands there a la Utah, he gets called for a foul...sigh consistency amongst officiating, whatg a pipe dream.
Yao still gets some BS calls occasionally, but this season has been a vast improvement over his first 5 in the league. I didn't like the Felton call last night either(or that cheap offensive foul that Okafor drew on his spin move), but overall it's hard to find fault with how he's been refereed this year.
well they got karma. the used the same play on Tmac on that last play and they got called with offensive foul. duh!
IMO the main reason his blocks are up is he is not chasing people around the three point line. 7'6" in the lane is a lot bigger than when he is out defending in space or on the move.
I think Yao is get Star treatment if not super-star calls this year. On the other hand, Scola is murdered by refs so far.
Yao needs to learn to put one arm in front of him and use the other to block the shot. Instead he jumps with both arms straight up and allows players to hit him in the chest which looks like a foul to ref.
No player is going to get the right call every single time, but as many have stated in this thread, Yao has been getting the benefit of the doubt a lot more this season. The refs are allowing him to jump straight up without calling a foul on him. Yea there were some bad calls in the Bobcats game, but no ref can be perfect. Overall the officiating in every game has been pretty good this year. As for Scola. He keeps jumping into the defender or brings his arms down on the defender like Yao used to do in his rookie season. He will learn. I'm not worried about him. He's a smart player.
I agree, also he is not going for any head fakes. He just sits there and waits until the player goes up. Sikma may have something to do with that.
Not that it matters in the scheme of this thread, but Chuck didn't get into the game at the end. The five on the floor for that defensive stand were: Tmac, Shane, Bonzi, Rafer and Mike James. As for is the way they call fouls on him a problem? It's always going to be a problem, but I agree with the poster before who said there is some improvement. There have been a lot more of the "No Calls" this season than there were all of last season. Last season Chuck and Shane would swipe at them before they would get to Yao in order to prevent those calls. This year they haven't had to do it as often.
yao is getting much better treatment from refs this year than past. of course, not at the level of td, kb, lj, and kg.
What does this even mean? I don't think Yao is getting superstar calls just yet. For example: if Ray Allen jumped into Yao while driving in the lane, do you think it's a non-call or a def. foul on Yao? ...definitely not superstar calls.
