I agree he is much more athletic but his athleticism has not translated into production on the court. He is what he is at this point (he's almost 27) so I don't think upside is something to consider with him. This isn't his first stint in the NBA either. He has had his chances before.
I would love to trade Barry and Cook for an SG if possible, i don´t know of many SG on that range but we should be at least be able to get someone of Delfino´s quality, he was on a 3 million contract when he left the league. If we have to sign and trade Wafer to a contract to get a better paid SG i think we should do it, a SG is a position that we are in need now and we will in the future.
There is a rule in the D-League that allows players cut in training camp to automatically be allocated to their D-League affiliate if the player decides to sign a D-League contract. So this may be on option for Budinger or Taylor if they decide to keep James White on the roster. The Spurs used this loop hole with Malik Hairston. He ended up with Austin after training camp. The Spurs then signed him to a deal (they waived him later in the season, and he ended up back in Austin because of another loophole that allows NBA players who were called up from the D-League during the season to return to that specific D-League club if they get waived by their NBA club). While they don't retain the players rights persay, he will be working directly underneath Houston here in Rio Grande Valley and now that Houston has taken over our basketball ops, that player will be working with Rockets hired personnel. They could call that player up during the season either before or after the 10-day signing period. However, if the Rockets keep a guy on the roster, assign him to the D-League, and then waive him, he doesn't go to the Rockets D-league team and goes into the regular player pool, meaning another D-League team can pick him up. The waive has to come out of training camp for automatic allocation. This happened to OKC with Steven Hill. They assigned him to the D-League, he got hurt, was called back up and then waived. He eventually returned to Tulsa but had to be traded there, he wasn't automatically allocated there. Yes, the D-League has weird player allocation rules. Trust me there are a ton more..and they are even more confusing. But the long and the short of it is. It would be better for Houston (provided they don't buy out Cook or Barry) to waive one of the two rookies in camp so he can end up with Rio Grande Valley at the start of the D-League season and develop him directly, without using a roster spot (Of course that is if the player decides to stay in the states and not go overseas)
Just following the Dollars Let's say TMAC comes back - He is a 20 -5 - 5 guy DO YOU SEE HIM REUPPING WITH THE ROCKETS? I cannot because he would have to take a SIGNIFICANT pay decrease Even if he is a 25 - 7 -7 guy this year [when he is in] His history of injury and failure [whether his fault or not it is failure] . . i could not see them investing *any* thing significant in him long term. So either they get the best deal they can by the trade deadline or they let him walk Rocket River
It is the same situation we had with Ron, and why I wanted him traded, but who knows......it worked out with Ariza.....anyway. DD
My hope is that we can somehow sell 2 expiring contracts (Cook's and Barry's) for some serviceable but extra player(s) who makes just slightly less than those 2 combined but are guaranteed past 2010. Teams might be interested if they think they can go after 1 or even 2 of those 2010 players while giving up on someone they see as expendable or helping them for the greater cause. We do it because Cook and Barry are pretty much spent. And as you've pointed out, we won't have the max money in 2010 and I have a feeling that we won't be landing that big fish that this bbs hopes for. So given that, go ahead and forget about 2010 and just stockpile good players who aren't paid a alot of money. But realistically - I think you are spot
Well, I just wanted to point out that the money tree was nails on the roster spots, got to get the pat on the back to counter all the Dan Langhi throw backs.... Only Pops was different, and he took Barry's spot after being bought out. So, when you take out emotion and follow the $$$$, you can usually reach a good conclusion. DD
Really, DD??? You needed to bump your thread for THIS??? Come on, now. This is like bumping a thread from August about Yao being injured in order to reiterate that Yao is STILL injured. Any poster on this BBS with half a brain knew that is would play out this way. And any poster who didn't know this isn't worth you posting a reminder that you were right. You're too good for this, DD.
Oh, come on, was having fun....went searching for AB posts in the AB thread and ran across it....and haven't you bumped your thread? Sometimes you just have to toss out the naysayers with a moment of truth. And it was not obvious at all, read the thread...there were trades potential....guys saying stash some in Europe....and some placing no value on picks we paid good $$$$ to acquire. Follow the money tree..... DD
I would have kept james white on the team and played him at the point position, not to run the team, but simply to lock down the other teams big pg, grab rebounds and have the occasional dunk every now and then. We lack size at every position, except the sg and sf, unless the Rockets are hoping to win the "smallest lineup" award for the season, i don't see Aaron Brooks being our "starting pg" of the future.
According to Morey and Adelman, his offense was good, the only thing missing from his game was defense, which they told him to work on. During the preseason, Morey and Adelman was pleasantly surprised by how good his defense became and yes, he was a lockdown defender for the Rockets summer league team especially when guarding the pg. The main flaw with his new game was that while he seemed to have become a better defender, he lost some offense, weird huh.
It was a good analysis, but you don't have to remind us that. Smart Rockets fan knew you hit the nail on the head. Just don't be like Kobe who had scream "He can't guard me!" every time he made a shot over Shane.
The guy has over 57,000 posts. He will comment on anything, including his own comments. Why are you surprised?
I have a lot to say....lol, and been here a long long time. This was just a fun little jab at folks that like to say I am wrong all the time....I guess us blind squirrels can find an acorn now and again. Hmmm, Aaron Brooks is the answer was a good thread..... J/k...... DD
DD - you're right often enough; stubbornly encased in a lost cause too often but this? C'mon. The question was always what trades would be effected, and when? We still don't know the what but but the when is...not yet. So, what does DD's crystalized balls say about who is the first Rocket traded in-season? I would expect everyone to say 'Cook, puhleeze' or mebbe 'McG, puhleeze puhleeze'. But I believe the answer is: Carl Landry. The super-sub good-guy. I'll miss him (just hope Cook goes with'm). Does DD agree?
