One word: Quidditch, or whatever the hell it was. It made the entire series seem r****ded. I still haven't seen any of the LOTR series due to how r****ded I found the first Harry Potter movie.
Although I've only played 7 & X after 6, I've been a lot more impressed in both latter versions not only with story development, but also with tangents. (ie. you can get Cloud to date yuffie in 7, and get him to date the big boob girl in X, etc.) While Shadow was a fun character to save in6, the ending, imo, seemed shallow. Probably due to my playing the other two beforehand. As I stated, I'm just starting on 8, and I've enjoyed all of the earlier ones even though I just started learning about this series a few years ago. Even FF 1 was fun to play due to the story, regardless of the graphics. And 3 was the first one to start killing playable characters. But the Aeris story in 7 has still been the most shocking, imo.
I agree. Quidditch is the single most stupid sport concept(fictional or otherwise) in history. My favorite FF game is FF8... yes the same FF8 that gets bashed everywhere. But FF7 was more memorable because it was the first RPG I played, and totally blew me away.
? I'm assuming you meant that you could get Cloud to date Tifa in FF7 (not sure where FFX came from?). FF7 did have more "diversions" thank FF6, some of which were fun, but they didn't really matter that much to me. You could even "date" Barret IIRC, so that kind of tells you how important that stuff was to the development of the story and characters. BTW, I'm guessing you know there was more to Shadow than whether or not you saved him? If not, Wikipedia has info on his background in the game (what he did in the past), as well as some other characters...although seeing it in words doesn't quite have the same impact: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_of_Final_Fantasy_VI#Shadow Full of spoilers of course.
Nope. Not wrong. Final Fantasy VII Get a date with Yuffie at the Gold Saucer If you are tired of Aeris and Tifa fighting over Cloud, then try this. To date Yuffie, be as mean as possible to everyone, except Yuffie of course, and don't let Aeris or Tifa into your party. If you have to use them, then run away from all enemies. Aeris and Tifa don't like a chicken-wuss Cloud. At the Sector 5 reactor, say "I can't hold on much longer" That will dissapoint Tifa. When you first meet Aeris, say "You were the slum drunk". That will lose you major points with Aeris. When you get to the Wall Market, say you'll take Aeris home. At the Wall Market get all the best items so Corneo will pick Cloud. Say all the stuff that will lead to Cloud 'almost' kissing him. When in Cloud's flashback in Kalm, go into Tifa's room, and sneak around in her dressers. You should recieve an item "Orthopedic Underwear" this will greatly embarrass Tifa, and you'll lose major points with her. Get Yuffie as soon as possible. Keep her in your party at all times, and keep her healthy. On the boat when you fight Jenova birth, keep Yuffie out of it, because she doesn't want to go. Whenever you have a choice to talk to your party always talk to Yuffie first and Aeris and Tifa last. Do the Materia sub-quest and always trust Yuffie. And don't go in the pagoda because that will make her mad. And on your way to North Corel have Aeris or Tifa in your party alond with Yuffie and take the ten phoenix downs from the bird's nest. This will make Aeris/Tifa mad at you but make Yuffie happy because you place treasure over birds. Then when you get to the date at the Gold Saucer, it should be Yuffie!
Yeah, I know that's possible (think it is possible to date anyone in your party IIRC). I was referring to the other thing you posted, which I put in bold. That's the part that confused me a bit.
I was talking about Lulu, but I may have gotten the dating part incorrect. (I always use walkthroughs when I play.)
i've been listening to the soundtrack to 7 since i watched these the other day. good post cola man. when i bought the V and VI anthology for PS, it came with a soundtrack. i find it strange but oddly comforting listening to 16 bit nintendo music on my ipod. i doubt ill play another final fantasy. the better graphics have only accentuated the japanese manga style which i find kind of goofy. i never got into anime. oh well, it had its time in the sun.
Part VI is now up: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=23726"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=23726" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> This covers FF8 and FF9 I believe.
Part VII (about FFX and X-2 I believe): <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=24248"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=24248" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object>
FWIW, I think the guy in charge of doing this got overloaded with work from the recent Games Convention event, so both this and the Metroid retrospective got pushed back a bit. He's not planning on this happening again (part VIII won't be delayed until next Wednesday was the way he put it). Helps that the Metroid retrospectives are done as well, so he doesn't have to do two of them at the same time.
Well it is almost Wednesday, but the next segment is up now: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=24494"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=24494" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> This is about FFXI (available in HD as well).
Watching these makes me want to dust off the games and replay them...but just thinking about the 50+ hours needed to beat each one doesn't really do it for me. *sigh* I had all the time in the world back in high school....
No kidding. It almost made me forget how irritating X-2 was in parts. Never did finish it. Makes me want to go back and start it all over again, subjecting myself to needless Americanized J-pop and a WAY too cheerful Rikku. Plus, Payne was no match for Auron in the coolness factor.
Part IX: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=25003"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=25003" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> I haven't followed the pre-release notes, but I think this one is about Ivalice (FFT, FFXII, Vagrant Story, etc.). I'll have to watch it to find out for sure though. BTW, didn't want to make a new thread for this, but I'm starting to get tired of Square-Enix teasing fans about a FF7 remake. Here's the secret ending for FF7 Crisis Core that you get only if you beat the game twice IIRC: (spoiler tagged just in case, although there are NO spoilers about Crisis Core, and certainly nothing you haven't seen before if you're a FF7 fan): Spoiler <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BsLA_V5myB8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BsLA_V5myB8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Note that, while similar, this is not the same thing as the FF7 PS3 tech demo from a while back (some subtle-and-some-not-so-subtle differences, including a completely new model for Cloud it seems). And from the LE book I believe (spoiler again, just in case): Spoiler
Part X and XI are available (X was available a while back, but I forgot to post it here): <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=25549"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=25549" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="409"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=26204"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=26204" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="409"></embed> </object> They're basically about the FF spinoffs (not just video games). XI talks about the big ones (Kingdom Hearts and Crystal Chronicles).
