My pastor's first name is Derwood. He goes by DR or Randy, though. He's about 40, but he's Derwood Randall III, and so the original Derwood was named that at the turn of the 20th century.

Does your grandfather have a mother-in-law named Endora?? ;)

Then I guess you really hate my son who will be 3 months old this Friday... :p

His name is Banks which is my wife's maiden name. We had the hardest time coming up with a name as every name I liked she hated, mainly because I was more in favor of the old school names like James, Robert, Steven, Michael, etc. She favored more current names like Heath, Drake, Blake (which I actually liked that one but I despised both Heath and Drake). Banks was about the only name we could agree on (other than Blake) - I liked it because I felt that since she gave up her last name to take on my name that the least I could do for her was to honor her decision in doing that by naming our child her old name.

However, I do understand where you are coming from as I am not very crazy about the uni-sex names like Kelly, Tracy, Stacy, Morgan, Taylor, Hunter, etc.
As far as I know, I don't know any girls named "Banks". :D

By the way my grandparents' names were as follows:

    Dad's side:
Alf (short for Alfred I guess or Alf may have been his actual first name)
Audrey (although I have seen relatives call her "Audra")

    Mom's side:
William (he died of cancer when my mom was 12 so I obviously never got to know him but he had already been divorced from my maternal grandmother)
    Doris

All of my grandparents were born in the '20s so that would be the reason, I guess, for the antiquated names.

Dad's side grandparents (both Irish): Frank and Joan

Mom's side grandparents: Patsy (Italian) and Margarita (Czech)

idk much about Czech culture, but is Margarita a common name? I doubt it and wonder how that name was chosen when her siblings names are Helen, Julie, and John

Yeah as a black man, I don't understand some of the creativity with the names of my fellow race. Its like the nae has to be so original that it needs to stand alone.

My grandfather Everette and Buela on my dads side. Johnna and Clara on my mother side. Dad name is Joe, mom is clara. Im kinda named after my grandfather everett except they forgot the e at the end. My blood daughter is Jasmine which was every little girl seemingly in 91 and my daughter through marriage morgan and a son blake. I like the name ezekiel from the bible, so his name could be ez lee. That's what they called me in highschool and college.

    Mom's side:
    Richard & Syble

    Dad's side:
    Vernon & Alice

A scary movie and a tv sitcom helped erase the female names...

But my dad's name, is mine, and I passed it to my son: Kenneth (my son and I both go by nicknames)
And my mom's name (Elaine) I gave a variation of to my daughter: Elaina

And those names are a bit rare these days.

    My wife's side were:
    (her dad) Roy & Pearl
    (her mom) ? & ?

    Rayford & Velma
    Newell & Pollyne (Polly)

My wife and I wanted our children to have unique names so we settled on Nile for our two year old son and June for our daughter due in a few weeks.

My great-grandmother's name is Mildred. Don't see that too much. My mother's name is Vonna. I've never seen that name anywhere else.
