Do you think guys would be such jerks if there wasn't a sizeable female population who is attracted to just that characteristic. I have a friend who complain about how she was treated by boyfriend after boyfriend but when I suggested dating someone who was nice, she said nice guys were boring. Masochistic. There's no saving them. Nor do I understand the drunkenness excuse. In my experience, alcohol is a disinhibitor, but it doesn't make you do things you wouldn't otherwise want to do -- it just removes some of the barriers to doing the things you do want to do. If a guy is an ******* while he's drunk, he's still an ******* when he's sober; he's just better at covering it up. I love these relationship threads. They make me so happy to be married.
with women, it's not really about who is nice or who is a jerk perse. it's more about who earns the woman's respect. i understand the appeal of the jerk. he doesn't put up with her whining, he calls her out on her BS, and generally gives the impression that he doesn't need her. this makes her respect and admire him. on the other hand, the nice guy is a "yes" man. he's got two balls but never uses them. he makes her the only woman in his world. all this spells doom and it's too easy for the girl. all the nice guy has to do is instill some of the jerk qualities w/o the abusive element. he can still be nice but she'll respect him. my confusion with women is when they put up with the abusive part. it's just mindboggling how they justify every action and never blaming the guy straight up.
I have a friend who complain about how she was treated by boyfriend after boyfriend but when I suggested dating someone who was nice, she said nice guys were boring. Masochistic. An extreme case. A secretary I knew at work a few years ago. Divorced Mr. Nice guy becuase he was boring. Mr. excitment ran around on her and when she divorced him, he killed her. So much for excitement.
