Yeah, that'll work. You expect the guy who couldn't get the job done when he had full autonomy for the football operation would suddenly start getting it done once his power and authority were removed. Can't wait to see how that turns out... I think ol' clueless Bob is doing fine on cloud nine. He wouldn't know what a winning football organization was if he were locked in a closet with it. As for Kubiak as personnel guru: hey, you wanted the Denver experience in Houston? Well you got it. Thanks for supporting Houston Texans Football... Were that to happen, I'd say we should all look to the skies because pigs will be flying like jets... Bob is not going to eat years of contracts for guys no longer here especially with the looming shutdown. It's ALWAYS about the money.
i agree with this....we threw dunta to the wolves, and he did just fine. the blame is on kubiak/smith for thinking a rookie would be the answer....but that doesn't absolve the rookie for being flat out awful, to date.
We had that last year and it didn't even get us a playoff berth. #4 in total offense. #13 in total defense. Man, what a freaking WASTED opportunity last year was.
Don't know about sunshine, but definitely lots of unicorns. <a href="http://s277.photobucket.com/albums/kk54/SidneyAcumbie/?action=view¤t=unicorn.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk54/SidneyAcumbie/unicorn.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
2012 graduate? So you were probably born 1990-ish? Yeah: The Oilers were an annual joke far more often than they were a playoff team (10 postseasons in 36 years, the vast majority of those ending in Hindenburg-like fashion). Ask someone about 1981-1986, otherwise known as the Michael Holston Era. What a blast!
i had more heartache with them. maybe because i was younger. maybe because they were such a tease. the texans haven't raised my expectations enough ever to disappoint me as much as the oilers did.
You are correct, I never got to witness the Oilers being in the playoff, but knowing that the Oilers had been in the playoffs before made me feel better about my team. I could defend the Oilers, but I can't defend the Texans. I am a huge fan, but we haven't been relevant since day 1.
The Texans have their issues; but trotting the Oilers out as a shinning beacon of organizational competence is like bringing a... pile of silly putty to a gun fight. And interestingly, the Oilers' last rebuilding project technically began in 1982 when they selected Mike Munchak in the first round of the NFL draft. They were an awful team (no more than 5 wins/year, IIRC) for five consecutive seasons before finally putting it together in 1987. (And only then on the back of a fortuitous strike.) And that was with 3 Hall of Famers on their roster. Kubiak will be entering his sixth year. I'm not excusing Kubiak - just sayin', in relation to the Oilers... The Oilers were a joke (often, much bigger than the Texans) for a lot of years.
Maybe I just wanted to remember them being better. I will act like this never happened and still remember the Oilers the way I want to remember them!
Yeah I wouldn't be citing the Oilers, as a shining example of a successful team...although they did win a lot of regular season games. The Texans have missed the playoffs in 8 straight seasons and appears stuck in mediocrity with a r****ded coach and an atrocious defense.
Well, the Texans are a legit average team under Kubiak. Always right around .500. So they aren't a complete embarrassment, at least. It's kinda strange to me that Kubiak was able to get the Texans to respectability so quickly but can't get them any further.
This sounds like a kid who should look at the old episode of NFL Football Follies that featured Bill Peterson, Oiler head coach and court jester, on the sidelines. I dearly miss the good old days when pro football AND high comedy reigned supreme in Houston.
