I think you posted the link wrong (probably copied the text directly instead of copying the link address). Is this the thread you were linking to?

Yes that is the one I wanted to link to. I copied the text, and got burned.

Speaking of mods, I already have like ~40 (~137 MB) of them downloaded...and as I've said before, I haven't even played the game yet. :(

I might get those two Bethesda mods as well later on, especially The Wizards Tower. They sound a lot better than the horse armor mod (no offense, but I'd rather pay ~$2 for these than for the ability to put armor on a horse).

What's the hold up, BTW? Why are you putting off buying your copy?

School mostly. This semester has been a little more time consuming on me than I expected, so I didn't want to make it worse by playing some addicting 200+ hour RPG. Maybe a 20-30 hour game (like say a Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid) would be fine, but not something like Oblivion. I want to play it when I can focus all my attention on the game (as well as keeping my attention now on my schoolwork). The game (and my new PC, or the parts for it anyway) has already been purchased actually, but it will be at my parents house until the end of the semester in about a month. I'll be visiting my parents in about a week, so I might get some time with Oblivion, although not as much as I’d like.

God, I hate that they are selling this stuff. WTF happened between this and Morrowind that they are charging people 2 dollars for one new quest or horse armor?

    What did you get?

Under two dollars isn't quite as bad for the quest/tower stuff, but for the horse armor was particularly rediculous.

Apparently, though, quite a few people bought it.

Dude, I briefly started a second game in Morrowind as an archer (having been a warrior-type)... and as soon as I got to Balmora and picked up that Daedric Bow (plus some area-effect arrows), no one could stop me. Yeah, I occassionally had to use my sword on some boss-types... but man, I got so invincible so fast as an archer I got bored of it.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (will probably overclock this one a bit)
Geforce 7900 GT (OC'd to 550Mhz for the core and 1580Mhz for the memory)
    2GB RAM
    Raptor(10K RPM) 74GB HDD

I got Age of Empires 3 for free too, which was nice. I've been wanting to play that game for a while as well. It might have to wait a while though.:)

The bow and arrow in this game depends on how you look at it. Hidden in sneak mode doing 2x damage is a big help. Even if the bow doesn't kill the creature, it is weakened by the time it gets to you.

It may not be a quick killer, but it does help. It makes a creature you kill with a melee weapon a lot easier. It doesn't suck, but it isn't a finisher unless you can stay hidden while using it.

Anyone wants to buy a PC copy of Oblivion for $40.00(s/h) from me? I have the 360 version but initially bought the PC version by mistake due to the identicle slip case of the limited edition package. Dumb BB employee mistakenly put the PC version in the 360 rack. Since I already open the wrapping(but didn't take the disc out), BB wouldn't let me get a refund.

What a bunch of typical best buy assholes. The saem thing happened to me when I bought the xbox version of FIFA 2006. I had to take the (empty) case to the counter - the chick sticks a PS2 version in the bag, which I don't realize till after I've opened it - scrweing my chance of a refund.

This is the strategy I use with my custom class (War Mage). I tag them from a distance with fireball spells and then finish them off with my sword. I had to have some kind of magic if for no other reason than the pyrotechnics. It is a trip to fire a shot way the hell off into the distance and tag the enemy. lol.

I also hate the fact they're having you purchase stupid little add-ons. So cheesy. But hey, it's all about the dollar and kids are about the easiest people to rip off.

I finally finished my Mage Guild quests so now I can make custom spells and enchanted weapons. Now I don't know if I should go after advancements or finally get back on track with the main quests... or maybe increase proficiency with light armor instead of the heavy armor I'm using...

I swear by the time I get to closing my first gate, I'll be fighting level 30 monsters...

Having the problem of deciding what to do because there is so much available is a great problem to have. That is one of the best things about the game. I get edgy and unsettled when I find out I can't play the game for day because of other commitments.

Paying for each little downloadable content is lame. I would rather they put together enough for an expansion pack, and then sell that. If successful, this buying one quest at a time could be a wave of the future. That would really suck.

I was definitely going to avoid paying for horse armor, but the extra quests, and mage's tower stuff are things I would love to experience in the game. I might have to pay for it in the end, even though I hate the idea.

Damn, that's more than just a little upgrading! Pretty costly right there. Or did you have most of that in your comp already?

I'm just going to save my pennies and nickels for the Aurora ALX from Alienware. Four GeForece 7900s, dual core hyper-threaded FX-60 processor, up to a terabyte of hard drive space, etc. etc. Oughta be state of the art for at least a week.

No, this was all mostly from scratch (new monitor, new motherboard, new DVD burner, new M+KB, new case+PS, etc.). I think my dad has an extra HDD (like 160GB or so) that I'll use, but that's the only notable thing that will go with all the new stuff.

It was funny because my original plan was just to get a 7800 GS (like ~$300) for my dad's PC to play Oblivion on (he had decent specs for his PC, but no PCI-E). Somehow, that changed to getting a new PC. It would have been less powerful (something I wanted), but my dad insisted that I get a dual core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and a fast HDD; it was his money, so I didn't complain. :) He's a little bit like Tim Taylor from Home Improvement, but for PCs.

Since my dad paid for it, I don't really have the exact figures (mostly after S&H and/or tax) for everything, but it was something like this:

    CPU- $355
    Graphics card- $355
    17" 8ms LCD Monitor - $200
    RAM DDR 400 (CAS latency 2) - $195 ($145 AR)
Motherboard (SLI capable, among other things)- $100 ($90 AR)
    Raptor 74GB HDD - $160 ($130 AR)
    Case and 450W PS - $70
    DVD Burner - $36
    M&KB - $20

So I guess it was a little over $1500 ($1400 AR) after S&H and all that. Of course, I got AOE3 for free, and since my dad did most of this through Newegg, he won't have to make any payments for 6 months (some promotion they're doing right now for preferred customers). I'm going to be set for a while I think...until TES:V. Strangely enough, I think the last time I got a new PC was for Morrowind.
