I have 'jumped right in' with a thief character. I hope I won't decide to change it a few hours in, but i think I'll be alright. So far, excellent game.
Was the intial intelligence setting at -25 for your character? I made the mistake of naming my character "juwan Howard". It wont let me select male for that name. Also, i cant modify the "power" stats. Says, Not Applicable. I went with Ryan Bowen instead and made an archer. I start off with -200 marksmanship but I get unlimited Stamina and a pet named JVG. Pet is small, ugly and fiesty but that's ok. Its on a short term rental.
lol! the game is cool so far, i spend to much time wandering around. the amount of stuff in the game is overwhelming. (im renting it). i fought in the arena and made some cash. thats how far i am in the game.
I'm not even really questing the main quest that much... I'm just running around the countryside right now... gonna see if I can make some cash. Where's the Arena? I need to build up my skills first... some of the bandits gave me some problems along the way to Chorrol. Not a good sign... lol.
The fast travel is one of the best features that morrowind didn't have, it was kind of a b**** to keep getting rides from those watchamacallits (striders?) i don't remember.
fast travel is also a weakness.... you won't be able to fast travel to intermediate points until you actually go by them. And you can't go by them if you keep fast traveling. Not to mention, slaughtering your way down the roads between towns helps you level, too. I love the travel between cities... especially now with horses. I'll use fast travel, but for me what makes this game so fun is it's so freakin' expansive, and fast travel tends to take away from that a bit. BTW, have any of you guys been hit by crashes? Lots of folks are reporting random crashes throughout the game...especially when going through doors. I've had it crash on me quite a few times now. I hope they can fix this problem.... some say it's a Soundblaster issue...
hey i rented this game, so there was no instruction booklet. so i figured out the coin icon is money, so is the feather = weight? shield = armor class? heart = health of the item? my character, RON ARTEST, passed that one mission where you have to shut down the gate for the 1st tme.
tinman, feather = weight shield = how much total that the armor you are currently wearing protects you (I noticed this number will steadily go down the more you fight because it gets worn) heart = how good of shape the item is in I have used the fast travel extensively. Let me give you guys a little pointer first before fighting in the arena. When you first get into the arena talk to the Orc that is swinging his sword. He gives you a mission to do and once you complete it he will reward you with some "new moves" that permanently increase your blade, block and one other thing I believe. It will really help when fighting in the arena. I spent about a good 2 hours yesterday just fighting in the arena and moving up in rank. So far I have made it to gladiator. But I am currently having to find more money to buy healing potion so that I don't keep getting my ass handed to me in there. It gets difficult and is really becoming tough. I have actually lost money in the arena from having to buy all the potions to survive my fights. I am about 20 hours in right now and the only main quest I have done is bringing the Amulet to Jeuffre(sp?) ever since then I have been doing the hell out of side quests. It seems that almost everyone I talk to gives me a side quest to do. I had to pull myself away from the game yesterday because it is hard to put down once you start. This is a brilliant game that will have me busy for quite a while. I have a question what do the scrolls do? I have quite a few of them but can't figure out how to use them.
I think so rokkit. I looked in the manual and I have some that have the little purple circle beside it (which I believe means they are magic) and some that do not have anything beside them. I just can't figure out what to do with them.
Hmm, well I just started playing but in Morrowind the scrolls like that were kinda like 'one time use' spells. You could hot key them like your learned spells and use it ("read the scroll") one time. I already did this once on accident (still getting used to 360 controls) when I had a lightning/bolt scroll. I went to fire at this skeleton thinking I'd shoot him with my little weak fireball when this flood of lightning tore him apart. First I was like, that was cool. Then I was sad because it was the only one I had.
how do i know what weapon is good or not then? by the armor icon? what about armor? i dont want to buy the $20 hint book to figure out what all the spells do. is there a place online i can look up stuff?
tinman when looking at weapons if you want to know their strength look under the knife icon. The highest I have found is the warhammer with a 5. Blades such as the claymore have a 4. Be careful because the more you use them without getting them repaired will cause this to lower and the weapon will become less effective. If you want some free weapons to check what I am talking about there are several in the Arena. When selecting armor look at the shield icon and under that will be a number which represents how strong the armor is. You can of course put on several pieces of armor such as a helmet, chest plate, boots, shield, etc. The armor at the bottom beside your gold total is the total amount of armor you are currently wearing in total. As you fight more and your armor becomes more damaged you will notice the number under the shield icon decrease for each individual item and your overall armor number will decrease as well. It can be a little confusing but hopefully that will help you out. The spells will tell you what they do when you go to them you should see a little box come out of the right hand side telling you what it does. For example I have the flame spell which tells me it does a 6 pt damage on my target. There are also touch spells and healing spells. and thanks rokkit I will check that out. I have tried to use them before but I might have been trying to use one without a magic icon beside it.
I still haven't booted up my 360 with this game in... Damn WoW Molten Core raids owned me all weekend.
Just a hint to you guys simply looking for a weapons or armor that have high values... heavy armor also slows you down if you're not adept at wearing heavy armor... so you may do better with light armor despite the heavy armor's defense value. Also, some armor have magical modifiers that make them far more valuable than non-magical armor with a higher defense value. It isn't always black & white... you'll see what I'm talking about as you progress and have to figure out what to drop... at least I HOPE you guys think about it.
I bought Morrowind GOTY back when it came out, but for some reason or other I didn't finish and stopped playing until recently with the anticipation of Oblivion. Anyways, everybody's favorite Daedra Goddess Azura was on my mind and when I found out from an NPC that a shrine was nearby, I had to check it out and sure enough she sent me out on an interesting quest. I hope she rewards me with something like a nice weapon. Did anybody playing Morrowind ever do that one Daedra God quest where you find a ruin out in the water and activate a quest to rebuild his shrine and your reward is this sword Goldbrand? It was one of the easiest quests, it just took a month of in game time before the shrine was finished. SPOILERS about the Dark Brotherhood and Arena Has anybody been visited in their sleep by a spokesman from the DB? You might have heard from rumors or from NPCs talking to eachother that they come to visit you if you've murdered someone. I don't plan on playing my guy is a murderer, but in the Arena, I had done a quest for the Gray Prince where you try and prove his noble birth but find out his father was actually a Vampire. Anyways, when I became champion and challenged him, he gives this distant response like "yes... that will do...." I don't know that if you don't do his quest if he'll ask you to do it first before he accepts your challenge, but I had done the quest and when you face off with him he doesn't fight back and demands that you kill him because he is the spawn of an evil Vampire. Anyways, when he goes down you get this message about someone observed what you just did and sure enough, when I rested up, my invitation to the Dark Brotherhood was extended. One thing I love is that the NPCs don't just fulfill their action to you and dissappear, they have to travel all the way back to their homes and what not, so i tried to follow this guy but he has a powerful chameleon spell and at one point I kept losing him so I attacked him and a guard helped me kill him and you get this message saying your only contact with the DB was been severed. I decided to go back to my savepoint and let him go. I'm sure there might be a future quest where somebody will ask you to find the DB as well as the Thieves Guild and I already know where to find the Gray Fox.
