I think along with making potions, you can also raise you alchemy skill by eating some of your ingredients (like random herbs or whatever), although probably not by as much...not to mention any possible side-effects. Only other thing I can think of offhand would be paying someone to train you in alchemy, which isn't a bad idea if you have the money (assuming it works roughly the same way as in Morrowind).
I'm sad that I don't have time to play this game until after World of Warcraft's 1.10 patch comes out... I just have too much crap to get done in-game before then.
I want to create a character named STROMILE so I can wander aimlessly through the game with no purpose.
Hey RC what the hell are you doing not owning a 360 and this game? I mean it is obvious you like video games and obviously really liked Morrowind. So what is the deal you NEED to get this game.
so i'm thinking about getting this game, though it sounds kind of intense and i don't really play RPG's. if i enjoyed fable on the xbox would i like oblivion or are they not remotely similar?
Yeah, I'm definitely an Elder Scrolls fan, so I will be getting Oblivion...eventually. I decided to hold off until after my final exams to get the game since getting it any sooner would just kill my grades. I'm already kind of short on time for games as it is; I don't need Oblivion sucking away 3-4 hours of my life a day (and that would be inevitable). School > games unfortunately. I'll be getting the game for the PC though due to the mods and tweaks available, not to mention it is enough of an excuse to upgrade hardware. I need the upgrade anyway to play some of the recent PC games that came out (still haven't played Half-Life 2, let alone any of its mods ). I want to do some extreme PC gaming this summer.
Crap, I've contracted 2 diseases in a manner of minutes. One from a wolf, they other from a vampire sorcerer. It didn't say vampirism, but I guess that's what it is.
So I have a question. I'm doing the Canvass the Castle quest... like when you have to find a painting? What are the peices of physical evidence you need to collect? I'm stuck on it. Anyway, I played for about like 7 hours in two days, but then I had to fly out to Florida... sad... no Oblivion for like a week.
Well... I play right before going to bed, so with the lights out, on a 50 inch HD... It's the best video game experience I've ever had. Maybe the computer has even sharper resolution or better controls, but I'm not really sure how anything can beat this game on 360.
Since I can't play the game, I've been checking out other things about it. It is kind of early, but there are already some decent mods for the game (at least from their descriptions anyway). For those playing the game on the PC, here are some mods that I found that you might want to check out: Khajiit Night Eye Toggle Vampire Hunter's Sight Toggle Both of these basically allow you to "toggle" your night eye (and detect life for vampires) on and off, rather than having a duration for them. Arcane Velocity Marksman Velocity These tweak the velocity of arrows and spells in the game to varying degrees. For example, an iron bow with iron arrows will "lazily loft toward your enemy," while something like an Elven bow will send the arrow "screaming" toward your enemy. BTW, both of these apply to your enemies as well, not just you. Ring of Atmospherancy This allows you to control the weather, similar to a Morrowind mod IIRC. Capucine's Eye Selection This will add 26 eyes for all races except Orcs. Check out what they look like: Vagabond's Better Gold This makes the gold pieces look a little better, like this: Skills & Needs Part 1: Sleep This makes it so you must sleep ~8 hours a day, or you'll start to suffer penalties to your stats. For most, this may not be necessary until after you get used to the game and want a bit of challenge. I was also reading up more on the .ini tweaks. Besides the stuff I was talking about earlier (in the March thread I think), it sounds like you can also change it so that the water will reflect things (or more of them if it does already, not sure). There's also a way to tweak the amount of grass and trees, which can really boost your performance if you make them less dense (so you can have grass AND decent peformance rather than one or the other); on the other hand, if you have a beast of a PC, you can increase the amount of grass and trees I suppose. There are a couple of other things too, although nothing really amazing from what I could tell.
You'd be a +5 Bear Fart. That's about as useful as Stromile is for an entire game. Sorry for being off-topic...
I finally decided what I wanted to be last night... after what? Like 3 days? lol... I'm a WarMage (custom build)... My 2 attributes are Strength and Willpower... so I can swang my blade or toast you with spells. I hope I didn't screw up... Regarding skills and leveling... don't just go jumping around like a nut... you'll level up, but your problem is that the enemies will level up with you like RC Cola said... so now you've leveled up your athletic abilities (which are almost useless) and your fighting and casting abilities are probably still weak. Use what you do best to level up if possible...
jeez, that's even worse than Morrowind. I would have thought the absolute worst it could be would be to be the same as Morrowind. I'll buy the game this weekend.. i have an nvidia 6800 ultra, 1 gig of ram, 2 gighertz machine.. hope i don't have to scale that far down.
You should be fine. I think I saw someone with a system pretty much just like yours (a little worse I think), and he/she could play fine on medium-to-high settings (which aren't really THAT much different than everything maxed AFAIK). With some tweaking, you could probably get some great visuals while keeping a playable frame rate. The system for those graphics was something like a Pentium 1.8 GHz, 256 MB RAM (may have been as high as 512), and a Nvidia 5xxx card (forget which). I don't think many people with that setup will be trying to play the game...or at least, I hope not. BTW, IGN and Gamespot have finally put up their reviews for Oblivion. I'll probably do it better in the March thread, but here are their reviews: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/698/698400p1.html http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/theelderscrollsivoblivion/review.html
I've played it now for a couple of hours (including my run through the training part before I restarted the game with the character I wanted), and it's easily one of my favorite games ever. It's up there with Morrowind at least. This is great... I'm just going to run around for a day or two just like I did in Morrowind... lol. This is the game I've been waiting for and it's lived up to the hype... I didn't think they could top Morrowind, but dang... and I've barely done anything other than kill imps and run around. For you mages with something like a fire/flare spell.... once you get outside, fire one into the distance. I sat there just watching the thing fire off into the distance... and I do mean DISTANCE... you can see it fade into the sky for a mile... great visuals!
Nice character builder if any of you guys are planning ahead of time (as opposed to jumping straight in an ending up with a character you'll regret down the road) : http://www.oblivionmods.info
Hey That character builder is pretty cool. Thanks for posting that link. I like the Dreamknite I made, but on future go-rounds I may tinker with some different things. The game is truly amazing. All the details, all the options, so much freedom, etc. The AI for the NPC's is truly amazing. Just listening to the conversations the NPC's have with each other can be a blast. Then seeing a woman I was talking to, all of a sudden get fired on from a guard, pull out her knife get in a fight with him, and then try and run away only to have other guards finish her off was exciting. This was after a number of other NPC's told me how lovely the girl was. It is a great game alright.
