Ok, just bought the game for xbox360. If I want to do sword fighting but be able to have some magic to fight with also, so what is the best choice of race? Any other tips for beginners is welcomed also. I bought the official game guide and it's 369 pages long!
Have you encountered any monsters that use reflect? ..I would love to create spells or enchanted weapons with all these spells piled up.. but I'm really afraid of getting it reflected back on me like in Morrowind. That's why I always use absorb health, only thing that can't hurt you when reflected.
If you bought the official game guide, read the part on character creation. It answers your question. It's one of the reasons you bought the game guide.
I bought it for the PC, but have not installed it yet, I am afraid that when I install it I will lose all free time....... Gonna install it tomorrow...
I'm sure they exist, but the only thing I've noticed so far I think is somebody (a bandit?) that dropped a shield of reflect 17%. You may want to ask others that have gotten way further than I have.
I have been in a lot of dungeons, and encountered a lot of bandits on the road. But I haven't seen anyone with reflect yet. I was thinking about trying to set some up myself once I can enchant, but a lot of my magic skills are pretty low. I am going to buy enough illusion training to get it up to 25, but outside of restoration and alteration I am below 20 in all other schools. Reading about the spell creation that sounds really cool. I doubt I can do much now, but from the amount of Oblivion gates I see around the country side I have a long way to go. I also have a ton of unfinished quests from various towns and guilds. I have 70 hours of gameplay in, and I am not near being finished.
FB, you know you don't have to close the Oblivion Gates, right? Oh, and I have about 90 hrs of play and I'm barely getting started... lol.
Well that is a relief. I didn't know that. I still haven't been to the city of Leyawin yet. I was on my way there, and saw three gates alone between Anvil and Skingrad. So I know there are others that I missed in just that section. One more recommendation to go and I will be able to investigate the enchanting and spellcrafting side of things. Plus I will continue the main quest them too.
Yeah the gates out in the wilderness are optional. They'll open up again. The ones by the cities can be closed permanently, but I've heard you should keep them open until fairly late in the game because they're part of the main quest. Still doing the side quests. Did a little bit of the main quest, but focusing on the Daedric shrine quests at the moment. Did run into an apparent bug though. I try to tell the Daedra that wants the Umbra sword "no" just so I can complete the quest, and the game promptly freezes on me. I mean, I can keep Goldbrand and turn in the Umbra, but I really like the effect it has. I can't refill soul gems on my own (I'm not a spell slinger) and this would help solve my recharging problems.
Just got the umbra... damage scales up with level i guess it's 29 for me, 4 higher than the daedric longsword and lighter... good deal
Well I did the unthinkable yesterday. I started over after 35 hours with a new character. The good news is that I already like my new character much better.
Start at the Shrine of Boethia... there's a lot to do from what I remember... including being a part of a tournament against 9 or 10 other combatants.
Yeah, the Tournament of the Ten Bloods. You basically have to fight against one NPC of every race except your own. Make sure you have a ton of inventory space if you can spare it, they drop some nice stuff. A lot of the drops are hamemrs though, which are REAL heavy.
Yeah, I don't know if I could get through that... from what I understand, you can't leave to repair? If that's true, then I'm probably screwed unless I can drop half the combatants with ranged magic or something. I just finished the Arena without having to fight the Grand Champion, and a couple of those fights had me running around in circles waiting for magicka to recharge so I could heal. lol.
Guess I gotta find that shrine first. I remember rebuilding Boethia's shrine in morrowind. Such an easy quest for such a badass weapon.
Yeah once you're in, you're stuck there. I'd recommend making sure you bring plenty of repair hammers. I actually got lucky. I knocked off one of the mages and found 116(!) potions of major healing. I walked in with like 5 or 6 potions and ended up with about 160. I'm having a bit of trouble with one of the Daedrics. Specifically, the one with the "Stark Reality" spell. I can't figure out how to get into the room to cast the spell. I keep getting stopped.
I just got to journeyman armor... meaning I can repair enchanted armor now... sweet. Now I can don the full battle gear when I go into Oblivion Gates ... One of the Daedric Quests is pretty sweet... it's the last one you can do... you can't do it until you've done all the other ones.
I think you have to wear expensive clothes to make it look like you belong in the party, then you can fast talk a guard to let you in. I think.
Woo hoo... just took out Umbra. That fight surprisingly wasn't as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I used that spell I created a page or two ago in this thread. Had to hit her about 4 or 5 times with it combined with whacking at her with my sword, but she went down fairly easily. But crap, did her swings pack a punch or what?
