This is a swath of sky is about as big as a fingernail held at arms length; each point of light is an entire galaxy ~ something intelligent is out there. There are just too many star systems...

Here is a photo taken by one of the Mars rovers ~ multicellular life on Mars?

If it is established that there is life on more than one planet in our own solar system then the galaxy/ universe must be teaming with life – right?

if life evolved naturally here with just the elements thrown out by supernovas and a little lucky temperature break, then i don't see how it couldn't have around one of the 100 billion stars in the 100 billion galaxies there are out there. i mean the fact that this was just such a freaky coincidence that couldn't be replicated once over 10 sextillion chances seems to hard to believe.

on that note, i still don't get how the hell life managed to start. i mean chemicals floated around and one day they said hey, what if we join together. and what if we decide to start replicating. and dna stepped in and said i'll coordinate it all. and then membranes came along and said hey i'll protect and hold everything together. then all the cells figured out how to specialize and work together to make something bigger. and ribosomes made everything do what the dna wanted. and organelles did all the dirty work. and on and on. it just seems hard to believe molecules unthinkingly guided by the laws of chemistry and physics just made it all happen.

and then of course, where did any of this come from. the universe somehow got here (or all the universes somehow got here) and exists within something. why was there anything for the big bang to explode into.

Stop it! My head is going to explode!

Even if aliens do exist, why would they want to stop by and say hello to humanity. To them, Earth is probably the Alabama of the Milky Way. If you were an alien observing the behavior of humans on this planet, would you really want drop in? Humans are agressive, kill each other, pollute their own planet to the point of drving other living creatures to extinction. I am sure they are hoping we don't ever figure out how to leave this solar system.

I think it would be great if humans were far more adavnced than all of the aliens, that we we can be the ones that are taking their planets and strip mining them instead of the reverse. It's a dog eat dog universe and you don't want to be the chihuahua.

    More likely we're the chihuahua.

There's probably some alien race watching us like we're in a zoo.

Then there's probably an older race watching them watch us.

    And another watching them...

All this stuff is just fascinating. The sad part is we won't reach a definitive conclusion for many, many years from now.

Take one drop of pond water and put it under a microscope. You'll see another form of life oblivious of whoever or whatever is watching them. Size is all relative.

That brings up another interesting point ... viewing the human body as a synergistic collection of individual multicellular organisms. And I'm not referring to all the bacteria that we rely on to help keep us alive, but our own cells. They found that some cells in our body actually respond to light. What's that about?

Oops.. I've strayed too far... :)

There have to be other civilizations out there. I mean, how sad would it be if *we* were the best the universe could come up with?

sorta off topic but still relevant some what. In my bio lecture class the other day my professor brought up a point from an article she read. Humans are advancing at a real fast pace, and the use/understanding of the world and its resources around us is rapidly increasing. With ideas such as nanotechnology implementing themselves within current technology to create "ultra-robots", she said that this article preidcited that by the yaer 2030, we should start seeing robots full force and in use regularly.
