I agree that he will most likely stay but I'm not ruling it out completely yet, Morey following them on Twitter shows that he at least thinks there is a chance to persuade both of them. It's a nice thought. Realistically we end up with one of the FA Power Forwards in Millsap, Jefferson or Smith, or we stand pat and try to make a move for a Love or a LMA (most likely not happening either). But the thought of Howard or CP3 is really a good one to have and it's nice to know we have a GM that has put us in this spot.
Dude, the Nets would need to give away at least 2 players as well as Brook Lopez (unless its Deron or JJ) to even be able to initiate a sign and trade for Howard. He's not going to Brooklyn, that ship sailed.
Why only three years? We can sign him to a four year deal with the fourth being a player option. He can opt out at 30 years old and get another max contract, or he can just exercise his option if some freak injury should happen. I know Morey doesn't do player options, but we all know he'd make an exception for Howard. The worst thing we can do in a sales pitch is try to shortchange him.
There's something I think everyone fails to realize when it comes to Dwight Howard's season this year! He came back from back surgery about 5 months earlier than expected, and he played with a torn labrum for about 6 weeks! At the end of the day Dwight Howard is the best center in the NBA. He is much better than Asik for sure! If you put him on the Rockets he will grab boards, block shots, and average about 25 a game! With Kevin Mchale coaching him you hope that he would develop some more post moves as well! I would welcome his addition to this team. Based on what I have heard James Harden would as well! This isn't a knock on Asik but Howard is just BETTER all around! I would love to actually keep both but if we can't do a sign and trade with the Lakers! Give them Asik and fillers and we can take Howard!
Dwight doesn't use teams as leverage, when he was going to be traded, sine our roster was ****, he didn't say maybe us, he was saying **** no, lol Given what our roster was, I can't blame him, we sucked.
I guess the main hurdle is can it be done under the cap. If Morey calls CP3 and says "I have a way for you to play with Harden/Dwight..." Then Calls Dwight and says "I have a way for you to play with CP3/Harden...." They would both be insane to turn that down.
Those DH tweets mean nothing, or maybe something. "Hope" is a wishy-washy word in that context. If he was absolute about returning he would have said he "will" make it up to Lakers' fans.
Do you realize you just backed up what they told you? Only difference is that you rounded the figures up. It is a fact that the ONLY way Howard gets the full amount is from the Lakers.....SnT and FA signings are restricted to less yearly raises and less years. Hence the difference between 118 and 88. I hope you werent calling FullCourt and JR uninformed, they were exactly right.
If Dwight doesn't sign with L.A, he gets the same contract as James Harden signed with us earlier this season ?
No he doesn't the way it works is this lakers can offer him a 5year deal after that a 3year deal. The Rockets can over him a four year deal and after that they can offer another 4year deal . In essence the so called extra 30 mill is sort of a fraud because he can get the same money here than he can in L.A. The only difference is the extra year that the lakers can offer in the first deal .
As much as Dwight Howard is called a mental midget who hasnt expanded his game, Howard's playoff stats IMPROVE over his regular season stats. (Even this past playoffs on Lakers his stats improved postseason). It means he's stepping UP to the challenge, not shrinking. And Howard's an iron man only missing 14 games his entire career. So despite lots of minutes and mileage he still has juice left end of the season (And Yao Ming now has a higher career PER than Howard, if that matters ) If you don't want to take a chance on Dwight Howard, its letting likability rule over player productivity.
Yes basically its the SAME ANNUAL salary. The only difference being an extra year resigning/extending with current team, 4 vs 5 years. Howard isnt gonna be out of the league after 4 years, he'll get another fat contract after that. So the extra $30 doesnt mean TOO much. TECHNICALLY, its still a little higher annual raises on an extension than in signing with someone else. Like someone mentioned earlier it'd be something like $22 mil signing vs $23.5 mil extension. The way to say it is Howard will get $10 mil more in 5 year period if he stays with Lakers over leaving. Still, that extra year is GUARANTEED money, NO RISK of it being taken away. But there's risk of taking a 4 year deal and getting hurt and not being able to cash in enough after that. It's better to be severely injured in year 4 and still have 1 year guaranteed money $30 mil waiting on you, instead of being hurt year 4 and instead of $30 mil the following year its more like "only" $10 mil and under after that.
