Just in case anyone thinks I'm making this up: Rec.Sport.Basketball.Pro post from 1.21.97 (date to right of post) http://bit.ly/13kME6s Rockets just played the Bulls. Those were the days, before Stockton's 3 in the WCF and thinking we would finally get a crack at MJ's Bulls. I'm the thread starter. And the post goes on... 16 years ago (man, I feel old). Almost nothing of substance on the internet at that time, particularly in terms of sites rather than newsgroups or chat servers. Drudge Report was like 1 year old then. ClutchFans was on the 'net then, in January of 1997. Rec.Sport.Basketball.Pro and ClutchFans. That's all that was around then for Rockets fans. Clutch has withstood the test of time and the site only has gotten better.
Dwights coming to houston...he sees the potential that we have...the lakers are old and falling off, the mavs only have a old nowitski and once he leaves the mavericks will go back to bein irrelevant again...its a no brainer to me.
Exactly. LeBron ain't going to L.A. Neither would Wade. The L.A. fanatics are selling how much cap room the Lakers will have for the 2014 and 2015 free agents. In 2014, you have Granger, Z-Bo, LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Melo, Amare, Gortat, and Duncan. In 2015, you have Rondo, E. Gordon, J. Green, KG, Boozer, K. Love, LMA, M. Gasol, Asik and T. Chandler. So, if you are Dwight... are you gonna' WASTE A YEAR, and HOPE you can get a couple of these guys to come to L.A.? Seriously, which ones will come - that will be BETTER than Harden, Parsons and US having Asik and Lin come off the books for the 2015 class (if they aren't moved now to get Josh Smith). I can see Granger, maybe Z-Bo, possibly Bosh or Gortat being interested next year. In 2015 I can definitely see L.A. pulling a Rondo and a Kevin Love, LMA or E. Gordon. But, does it make sense if you're Dwight to HOPE you can get a couple of these guys - and if you do, are they guaranteed to be better than you and Harden, Parsons and either Josh Smith or, if not him, also having space to add a Rondo or Love or LMA in 2015? It's a no brainer.
I am about to go to bed but quick recap of the last couple of days. 1.) Morey did an excellent job getting us to the point of pitching howard (acquiring assets, Harden, parsons, lin, asik, trading t rob) and getting the necessary cap space freed to sign him outright. 2.) Excellent Job with Pitch (bringing in all the relevant players to the table, hall of famers...etc) 3.) Warriors had a nice meeting but will need lakers participation which I am 99.9% sure Lakers won't do as far as a sign and trade is concerned. 4.) Hawks have and had no chance. 5.) Cuban was the only selling point for Dallas, they are an old team with no real peices to provide. 6.) Lakers bombed once they kept Dantoni after seasons end and even worse brought him to the meeting. 7.) The Barber has spoken 8.) Doc Rocket has spoken (but still to a certain degree indecipherable but with a positive hints being included) 9.) Josh Smith hasn't signed which probably means there has been some definite backroom discussions of creating a superteam which will likely mean the rockets get dwight. (God Willing!) 10.) Now we wait for Cyberx, Morey and finally Dwight Howard to come out with a nice fade for Friday's Press Conference. Rep this if you like it!
Don't feel old, you just posted this fantastic message about your basketball posting history when no one asked about it. It's amazing. Be proud. We love you here. Just like your grandkids do.
