Interesting to hear what he says about having Omer be Dwight's back-up. Conventional wisdom says to improve all of your starter's but I really buy the logic of having a stud defender/rebounder at all times at the C. Our team died every Omer got subbed out last year. Having Howard or Asik on the floor at all times would be pretty huge. Plus it takes a huge load off of Jones, D-MO and Smith, which would let them develop their games more efficiently.
Palmer isn't really an insider, though -- if you look at his timeline, he's just been giving his opinion the entire time. Would be surprised if he has a real source here.
Really hope it's true we're keeping Asik. We have 4 spots locked and D-Mo / Jones can fight for that 4 spot. I think both are ready to fight for it.
Lin / Bev Harden / (Garcia) Parsons / (Brewer) Dwight / Asik. Rebounding and scoring will not be a problem so all Jones & D-Mo have to is continue to grow.
Actually, you could just take that as hey LA, Dwightmare will be over...as in, at least the drama is over for you one way or another I think he's trying to appear as if he has inside information where in fact he's just saying the decision will be made
Thought this was interesting, too: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Hangin with Steph Curry today! S/O <a href="https://twitter.com/footlocker">@footlocker</a> should be another great one!!! <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23TeamNike&src=hash">#TeamNike</a> <a href="http://t.co/m59txuIStD">http://t.co/m59txuIStD</a></p>— James Harden (@JHarden13) <a href="https://twitter.com/JHarden13/statuses/351874430105948160">July 2, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Harden was with Curry yesterday, as was Dwight. I wonder if DH and Harden were together... Just speculation
I will say one thing joel blank tweeted yesterday : Joel Blank @RocketsManJoel 14h The Waiting game is always the hardest part...fingers crossed! doesnt sound 100% sure ... and you know he would have made inside connections.....soooo
what that means if we sign dwight...we get to trade lin/asik and all our first rounders for curry!!!! lol man that would be sick
All for Dwight but if he chooses someone else good for him b/c he clearly made his decision on non-basketball factors
More like this: est. average mins played for 2013-14 Lin 32 / bev 16 Harden 36 / brewer 12 Parsons 36 / Garcia 12 Donatas 28 / TJones 16 Dwight 34 / Asik 18 Something like that and I'm sure asik/dwight will play at least 2 mins together to build chemistry and experiment
Palmer is more of an analytics/statistics guy for ESPN -- here's a look at the types of stories he usually writes. I'm very skeptical that he'd have an unbelievably-good source that literally no one else has. http://search.espn.go.com/chris-palmer/
Broussard: Mavs and Lakers today, what will the meeting with the Mavs entail? Mavs will have Cuban, Carlisle, Dirk and Donnie Nelson Jr. at this meeting. They'll try to sell him this will be his franchise. He wants to be the face of the franchise like in Orlando and Dirk will move over and let it be his team. We'll play through you and Dirk will be the second guy. That will be a big part of it. Next summer, we can add a third star and be a big three. They'll try to sell him we can not only be good next year but we'll build around you for years to come. The Lakers meeting? Lakers will try to sell Dwight on tradition. It's the Lakers, the best franchise the NBA has known and Dwight can be that next guy. They plan to market him as they transition from the Kobe era to what they hope is the Dwight Howard era. Also plan to sell how Mike D'Antoni can adjust. This is what they have going for them: Dwight loves living in LA. He would love to stay for many reasons outside of basketball. They'll tell him like the Mavs, in 2014 it's your team, we'll build around you. Edge? Right now, Houston with Dallas right there, and the Lakers third. They have ground to make up. The experience he had there wasn't good. LA is not completely out of it. I'd say Houston and Dallas are my front-runners at this point.
