I take the park and ride from Kingwood to downtown, then a shuttle to Allen Pkwy. It actually costs me more than it would it I drove and takes an extra 20 minutes per trip, but I LOATH driving in Houston, so it's worth it to me. I usually do podcasts on the way to work and Pandora on the way home.

I hate driving in Houston and I avoid it whenever possible. I put less than 10K miles on my car every year and most of that involves driving to gigs.

Drive time to and from work was a HUGE decision in where I bought my house. I live outside the loop of Fort Worth in North Richland Hills and, even though there is lots of traffic to go downtown, it still is only a 15 minute drive almost every day to and from. There are areas that become gridlock. In fact, at least one section of Northeast Loop 820 was rated in the top five of worst gridlock in the country..especially during rush hours. There is tons of construction trying to expand the lanes. But, thankfully, I miss all that traffic as I have a convenient entry and exit ramp before it gets bad. It also helps that I do a 7 am - 4pm routine. 8 am - 5 pm traffic is the worst.

I could not handle a commute over 20 minutes in either direction. There is no effen way.

Can't stand my commute. It's not that bad, but I'm moving this weekend - and one of the main reasons behind that is that I can walk to work in twenty minutes. I look forward to podcasts, lectures, etc. that I can listen to on the way.

The 5 second walk from my bed to my office is a real bear.

Says the guy who has almost 40,000 posts compared to my 6,000. ;)

Perhaps I should have said, "I would have to re-evaluate my home life if sitting in traffic was the best part of my day." Better?

The peace and quiet can be nice, but IMO it doesn't make up for the hour or two a lot of us spend commuting everyday when we could be doing something else. Note that I don't have kids so I have a different perspective from those that do.

Remember when you first got your license? All you wanted to do was drive.

My drive home takes me through the Galleria on 610 South during rush hour, adding an extra 20+ minutes to my drive.

I spend that time in bumper to bumper traffic listening to punk rock and drinking one of the two 16 ouncers I purchase for the drive home, so I can better concentrate on yelling at idiots who leave too much space and flipping people off.

i don't have to drive through that area but that's a horrible bottleneck. There has to be some long term talk of correcting that going on

I'm subscriped to about 7 or 8 podcasts and listen to them while going, not only to and from work, but driving all around the city. Great topic, no one bothering you and you can listen to what interests you. Traffic still irks me sometimes though

I think the problem there is that 610 is the only north-south artery you can take. You have to go east all the way to Shepherd to find another, because of Memorial Park and River Oaks, or go west all the way to Chimney Rock because of Memorial. The rich people literally make that one of the worst traffic spots in the country.

On I-10 from Katy, you drive into the rising sun and into the setting sun.

    You'll hafta wear shades.

Shup. I know the short cuts and never hit 610 until after 7PM. I'll be at Uptown Sushi this evening, leaving at 6pm and it might be a 15 minute drive from inside the loop.

I don't mind driving on the freeway (unless it's terrible gridlock) but what really grinds my gears is when I drive in downtown. You'd be amazed to see how many people drive with iphone headsets on.

When I worked for the man I loved commuting. It gave me time to get ready for work and get my mind right in the AM and then it allowed me to wind down and relax in the PM. Driving and listening to music is great. Now that I work for myself I find that I miss commuting sometimes.

I don't remember all the sites I got them from and a few I got from a friend. Besides, I'm too embarrassed to give out my topics of interest :)

And for those who criticize us looking forward to driving, I don't disagree. I don't look forward to the traffic and having to deal with bad drivers and bikers who have no regard for others. But unfortunately I spend at least 3 hours a day in traffic so I find ways to make it interesting. Now I make it a point to only listen to lectures in my car and sometimes I get bummed when I arrive in my driveway and the lecture is still going on. Call me weird all you want... and yes, my home life is pretty boring. I'm fine with that though, I enjoy doing nothing at home.
