Rockets haven't had a first round pick since Sam Dekker and Capela in 2014 was the last one that cracked the starting lineup. We haven't even had a selection in the 2nd round since 2018. This is one thing Morey did I don't like.
I agree. Look down the list and the Rockets have been the only team to just throw away picks. Everyone says the Rockets had the best record from Morey's tenure. Yea no **** because we never had picks so we were never allowed to tank.
Morey traded the 2016 FRP for Ty Lawson, getting back their 2nd Round Pick. That ended up the 15th pick. In between those two picks, Siakam, Brogdon and LeVert were drafted. Malik Beasley, Zubac and Juan Hernangómez too. But worst of all, with that 15th pick, we probably would have been able to trade up to get much coveted Thon Maker at 10th pick.
You've got the cart in front of the horse there. We were never allowed to tank, which meant that year after year our GM had to find other ways of improving a not-quite-championship roster. Improving the way Hinkie and the 76ers did is easy if you can get the owner to sign on to the idea. Hell, they even screwed up some of their best picks and still put together a contender. Any of us could build a solid team if we were allowed to **** all over the fans and gather high draft picks. What Morey did was much, much Harder: Take a team that was supposed to be built around Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik and turn it into one that was in contention for titles more years than not.
Rockets have ignored the draft & player development for years. And if by chance they found someone (or might have found someone), they'd release and later end up trading for him (or attempting to trade for him).
You really think Morey wanted to give away our last 3 first round picks for luxury tax savings? Cmon man. You know this is why he quit.
to make matter worse look at what happen the last 2 years at the draft this year and last year good player in the mid rounds feel to where houston would pick the same may happen this year but we have no picks until next year
I’m actually hoping all the chaos around this draft causes more potentially good players to slip or even fall out of the draft altogether. Hoping they buy a pick, but they’ll at least agree to deals with a couple of guys immediately after the draft.
